Marvel Legends Deadpool Rainbow Squad Set Up for Order!

At this point, we’ve seen almost everything Marvel Legends that Hasbro revealed last year at SDCC 2017 released in stores—with a couple of key exceptions. We’re still waiting for a wide release of the much-anticipated X-Men Marvel Legends Apocalypse series, but another (sort of) X-related release just came available this spring. Marvel Universe collectors have had little to enjoy so far in 2018, but the Marvel Legends Deadpool Rainbow Squad box set is now up for order!

Deadpool Rainbow Squad Marvel Legends Box Set Mercs for Money

When Hasbro said last year that the long-running and beloved Marvel Universe/Marvel Legends 3.75” line was “resting”, they weren’t kidding. There hasn’t been a single new wave of the series since early 2017, and no new Marvel releases at all in that scale since the GamerVerse Mega Man X & Iron Man two-pack late last summer.

But finally, there’s a little bit of love appearing for the 4” Marvel collectors out there. Not only is the GamerVerse Spider-Man & Mr. Negative two-pack (first shown at the 2018 Toy Fair) finally getting solicited, but a five-pack revealed at SDCC 2017 is also seeing the light of day: the Deadpool Rainbow Squad!

Basically, this release is a box set of five differently-colored 3.75” Deadpool action figures. Believe it or not, this crazy set is actually comic-based, with members of the Mercs for Money (don’t ask) donning the rainbow Deadpool costumes a few years back.

Marvel Legends Deadpool Rainbow Squad FiguresWe’re unfortunately not getting the whole team here (no orange or pink Deadpools? Boooooo!), but the set does include:

  • Classic Deadpool (Red)
  • Slapstick (Yellow Deadpool)
  • Terror (Purple Deadpool)
  • Foolkiller (Blue Deadpool)
  • Solo (Green Deadpool)

On the accessories front, the Rainbow Squad Deadpool box set includes five pistols, five knives, and five pairs of katanas (ten total swords). Considering the surplus of empty space in the packaging, I’m not sure why they hid some of the swords on characters’ backs, but 20 accessories is pretty solid for any Marvel figure box set release. Good stuff.

Deadpool Mercs for Money Rainbow Deadpool Costumes

Overall, this is far from the most captivating box set that Hasbro has ever released, but I’ll admit that I get a little thrill out of wacky, whimsical repaints like these. I’m also just glad to see that we’re getting something in the Marvel Universe scale in the first half 2018. For me, this set’s a keeper.

Amazon received their stock of the Mercs for Money/Rainbow Deadpool sets a few days back and sold out at $64.99 per set, and only has 3rd party seller inflated prices of $100+ available as of writing. However, EE just opened up their own orders for the set at $59.99, which seems like a decent price to lock this set in at in case it turns out to be a low run.

Any remaining 3.75″ Marvel Legends collectors out there excited about or planning to pick up this set? Is the lack of new releases in this scale starting to make you lose interest in it and convert to 6″ collecting, or are you remaining a 1:18 scale collector? And would anyone besides me be interested in seeing the last two colors of Deadpool released to complete the rainbow?

  1. But what about 2 extra Deadpools like Pink Deadpool and Orange Deadpool as 2 extra squad members like the Power Rangers or Super Sentai

  2. Personally, I can’t start over with my collection and start investing in 6″ figures. If the 4″ fades out, then I will as well. If they continue, I will probably always be tempted to add to the collection. I have somewhere between 300-400 unique characters in 4″ scale (some customs). But if they stop with 4″, I will officially bow out and move on with my life as I probably should anyway.

I have been extremely let down with the 4″ the last couple of years. They will never do it as good as they used to with Marvel Universe. The articulation, material and paint jobs were amazing and captivated me. The simple paint washes they did for details is what made me love them so much. I used to rush to the stores to be the first to get them.

Now days, re-sellers swoop in and buy them ALL price gouge. And if you actually do get there fast enough to get them, they look cheap and I typically end up leaving it for the gouging crows. Glossy plastic printed detail and costumes. They used to sculpt spider-man webbing on the suit. They used to sculpt flexible armor. They used to have 4 articulations in the arm, They used to have 4 to 5 articulation spots in the leg. An ab and waist articulation.

Now they are close to old Star Wars articulation. Now they paint the webs on with cheap glossy paint (because super heroes are supposed to be shiny, right?). Its been a downfall ever since Marvel Universe. I’m losing interest more and more every year. Sure they are releasing TONS of 6″ figures which is great for those collectors. But they have given no real TLC to their 4″ collectors and we feel half abandoned. They give us less and ask for more.

And again, the battle to get your hands on one or to pay the gouged pricing, or to hold one for the arms/legs to pop off with the slightest adjusting… its simply not worth it anymore. I begin to feel like a fool for even giving my money. And if we do hang in there, its because we have some crazy hope that they will release something decent the next wave like they used to. But time after time, we are continuously let down.

I would LOVE to see BAF with the 4″. Basically, you’d be building a 6″ figure. But bring in some larger characters as BAF in the 4″ waves. Do that in addition to bringing back the old way of articulating and painting the figures, and BOOM… they’d have a HUGE comeback with the collectors of the 4″.

I wish I could voice this to them. But I don’t know how. If someone could get me an appropriate address to write a letter, or email or something… I would send them a sincere heart felt opinion from a 4″ collector.

I wish I could start some sort of Hasbro petition for their company to bring back the old designer team. See if we can get some signatures to agree with us.

    We can wish, right?

    • The six inch line is so good though. This coming from a former MU collector.

      • Someone us can’t afford $20 a figure or have the space for that scale. I’d have to sell my entire 3.75″ line and that wouldn’t even make a dent to replace the characters I’d be selling.
