UPDATE 9/26/2018: Just like fans never saw the twist coming with the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 (okay, I did, I admit), a lot of collectors never saw it coming when the Marvel Legends Iron Man 3 three-pack went straight from pre-order to out of stock last week and immediately spiked to 180+ bucks on the aftermarket. But fear not, Gwyneth Paltrow fans: the Amazon Exclusive Marvel Legends Pepper Potts/Mandarin/Hot Rod Iron Man set is back up for order for MSRP while it lasts!
Poor Trevor has the worst luck! Not only is his character (unfairly, IMO) one of the most critically-panned villains in the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe, but after having his 6″ Marvel Legends figure brought back from cancellation after half a decade, the store that was supposed to be selling his 3-Pack just had to go and implode. Alas, Toys R Us–you are missed.
But the future isn’t as bleak for fans of the Mandarin as some of us had feared–the third time appears to be the charm, and Trevor lives again: Amazon is now pre-selling the 10 Years of Marvel Studios Marvel Legends Iron Man 3 3-Pack as their own exclusive!
We’ve actually seen some of the tooling for the Mandarin used for other Legends figures in recent years, but the tooling on the figure looks dead-on nonetheless. And frankly, I’m just pleased to finally have the opportunity to own this long-awaited figure from one of my favorite Marvel movies (don’t judge me!) at all.
Mandarin comes with a 6″ Hot Rod Iron Man figure from the House Party Protocol (a 100% repaint of War Machine, but with way cooler deco–exactly as it should be) and the first-ever movie Pepper Potts figure.
I own the Hot Toys Die-Cast Hot Rod Iron Man figure, so this is a bit of a downgrade from that version, but it’s nice to finally get a six inch version after Comicave Studios/Play Imaginative never managed to get their own out.
We did get the cool (but imperfect) Rescue Pepper Potts comic-based figure a few years back as a Marvel Unlimited Plus subscription exclusive, but it’s Gwyneth Paltrow or bust for me.
Pepper’s end-of-movie “battle bikini” costume is definitely the version of her that I’d want for Mandarin-killing action (no, not this Mandarin–the other Mandarin), and I appreciate Hasbro giving us the interchangeable armored-up arm. Thanks, Hasbro!
The Amazon Exclusive Iron Man 3 Marvel Legends Pepper Potts/Mandarin/Hot Rod Iron Man set is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released on September 15th, 2018. This set has already started appearing internationally (and being scalped on ebay for mucho dinero), so I wouldn’t be surprised a bit if Amazon ends up shipping this trio out earlier than expected (and not early enough for me–I’ve been waiting long enough for that Mandarin).
The set is priced at $69.99, which is actually a decent price given that singular Marvel Studios Legends figures are marked at $24.99, with two-packs at $49.99. Now that the fated trio is finally available for order with a concrete arrival in the U.S., are you picking up this set, Marvel collectors?
I still harbor a grudge against Paltrow for winning best actress in 98 over Cate Blanchett. So that’s a no for me.
I still believe that Trevor really was the Mandarin and the goofy Trevor Slatery actor role was a diversion that masterfully fooled Stark and everyone else into thinking he was just a puppet of the real villain. Watch the Marvel one-shot “All Hail The King” and you’ll see that even while acting like a buffoon Trevor is running things inside the prison. I’m convinced… Trevor IS the Mandarin.
Sorry, I know this is a toy review page but I just had to get that out there. đ
Just because YOU enjoyed the character of Trevor Slattery does NOT mean the critcism the character received was “unfair”. What was unfair was having Marvel (COMIC) Iron Man fans think they were finally getting Iron Man’s main villain in the 3rd (and final?) Iron Man installment, only to get some sniveling actor (Slattery not Kingsley) playing a part and the so called “real” Mandarin not even a legitimate Marvel character. Yeah yeah, I know. Comic fans don’t matter to MCU lovin’ honks.
Right… thatâs why I followed the word âunfairlyâ with âIMOâ. Because itâs in my opinion. đ
I’m a little upset they are giving any exclusives to Amazon. I tried ordering from them before and they sent my figures in a bubble envelope. They don’t understand that we collectors like our figures to come in pristine packages. I don’t need tracks from a cart all over my figure.
You leave your figures in the package? The hell for?
Hello guys, in my opinion but in 2020 hopefully there will be Marvel Legends prop replicas that has to be Iron Man Hot Rod Electronic Helmet and Iron Man Disco Electronic Helmet a set of 2 that is EBGames Exclusive and GameStop Exclusive in North America so that connects Canada and U.S., wouldn’t that be amazing huh +Ugly Betty, +Dabid K., +Rukkdeez, +EM, +Droppo
mandarin looks great but i’m just not really interested in the other two figs. Should’ve thrown in Killian or Whiplash in place of Paltrow and/or the weird iron man suit, imo.
I really wish Pepper’s figure wasn’t barefoot. And that Iron Man arm makes no sense. She isn’t wearing a reactor.. so how is she using repulsor blasts? Would have much rather had her in her CEO suit or the dress from the first film.
Pepper is the highlight for me. The Mandarin is cool looking but hard to pose. I really wish we had gotten an Extremis Killian instead of the Hot Rod IM. I wouldâve been okay with a lot of a Chameleon mold re-use if they went with translucent, fire-breathing Killian.
