Hasbro has fallen into an excellent groove of picking desirable figures for reissues lately, and that train keeps chugging along today with a quartet of MVP re-releases! Previously Hasbro Pulse VHS exclusives and now on Retro cards, Marvel Legends Mary Jane Aunt May Smythe and Carnage are now up for order!

The lines of “VHS” packaged exclusives based off the 90s X-Men and Spider-Man animated series turned out to be some of Hasbro Pulse’s most popular and sought after items ever.They also tended to be extremely hard to come by after selling out, with prices escalating quite a bit on the aftermarket for the most popular ones.

But Hasbro is throwing collectors who missed out a bone, bringing back 4 desirable Spider-Man VHS figures on new Retro cardbacks (with more to come!). Let’s take a look…

First up, we’ve got a rare single-carded release for a Mary Jane Watson figure. This isn’t the first time Hasbro has ever released a civilian MJ figure, but it is the first time for a non-movie version.

I reviewed this Mary Jane figure back in 2024 and thought it was outstanding. Honestly, I thought that figure dragged down a bit by the Green Goblin it came with. So getting her solo here with a few extra accessories (a rose and a rolled up Daily Bugle newspaper) is a full win. Nice pick, Hasbro.

Also on the civilian front, it’s the first ever solo-carded 6″ Aunt May figure! Specifically, this is 90s Animated Aunt May, who comes with swap out hands, her purse and a magazine (with MJ on the cover!).

This figure originally came with Doc Ock in a two-pack, who I honestly wish was getting reissued here instead. There’s a wild novelty factor to getting a singles release of Aunt May, though, so I’m pretty chuffed to get her. This will definitely be a keeper for in-package collectors, as I just don’t think we’ll ever see her again on a solo cardback.

The last of the 3 figures on 90s Spider-Man TAS Retry cards is Smythe, who initially came in a VERY popular two-pack with civilian Peter Parker. Hasbro *must* be planning to re-release that Peter Parker later on, so I don’t mind getting Smythe here for those who missed the semi-obscure villain.

My earliest memory of Smythe was being frustrated by him being on the cardback for the first wave of Toybiz Spider-Man 5” figures, even though he wasn’t included in the earliest cases at all, so seeing him in this Retro package does give me a touch of a warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling.

Maybe the singular coolest item in this wave is the figure that *doesn’t* come on a Spider-Man Animated retro cardback: Carnage—or more specifically, Maximum Carnage!

The legendary 90s Maximum Carnage video game and comic book story arc spawned its own packaging back in the Toybiz days, and it puts a genuine smile on my face to see Hasbro homage that here. This is just a delight for packaged collectors.

The Carnage figure itself is pretty standard, but I liked it when Hasbro first released it and I still like it now. A totally solid Carnage for those needing one, although I think most sales of this figure will be by those keeping it in the sweet Maximum Carnage packaging.

These Retro Spider-Man Marvel Legends figures are now up for order and scheduled to arrive in December/January. Could we see these arrive in time for the holidays? They’re priced at $27.99 each, which is the typical MSRP right now. Pricy, but not batshit crazy like some Hasbro releases.

Hasbro has already confirmed more of the VHS figures will be re-released in the future. Who are you hoping for, Marvel collectors? Personally, I’d love to see Peter Parker, Daredevil, Hydro-Man and Morbius next! How about you?
