This has been a rather quiet week Hasbro-wise, but several of the other companies making 6”-7” Marvel figures have been taking advantage of the respite to launch new toys of their own. And one of those companies is Medicom, who’s just solicited the third and fourth figures in their new MAFEX series: MAFEX Deadpool and Evil Gwenpool (?!?) are now up for order! I admit I don’t have a clue who Evil Gwenpool is—but that is one sweet action figure…
There have been so many Deadpool action figures released over the last few years that even I’ve lost track of how many are in the market and from what companies. Does the Deadpool MAFEX bring anything new to the table…?
Well, there’s only so much you can do with Wade Wilson that hasn’t been done before, but Medicom actually did come up with a couple fresh ideas for this figure.
I really dig the interchangeable belt buckles, an aspect of Deadpool’s costume that I’ve always wanted to see given interchangeable options, and Medicom pulls that off nicely here with a trio of interchangeable logo buckles.
The three heads Wade comes with are also great, with the asymmetrical eyes looking zany enough that they really caught my attention.
While I know guns are a controversial subject, I think the absence of any guns with this Deadpool is definitely a bizarre choice, though—particularly since he seems to come with trigger fingers among his many accessories. Weird.
This specific Deadpool action figure is based off the artwork of Japanese art team Gurihiru, although I gotta be honest: he still looks like pretty much every other Deadpool out there. This is a fun figure that I think many collectors will enjoy, but I don’t know that it’s necessarily a must-have for anyone who has a couple of the many, many other DPs out there.
The other new figure Medicom has solicited today is… Evil Gwenpool!? Let me be totally honest here: I legit had no idea this character even existed until I saw the first prototype of her action figure. I don’t know if there’s a secret booming Gwenpool fandom or what, but an evil version of the character getting a toy might be the biggest shocker of the year for me.
That said… her figure looks incredibly fun and cool. I dare say it just might be the most unique and interesting entry in the whole Marvel MAFEX series so far! I don’t have any idea what this character’s deal is, but any villain who can surround themselves with comic book effects pieces is good in my book. Neat-o!
Evil Gwenpool will come with three interchangeable heads, including one unmasked head that’s actually a bonus addition to the first MAFEX announced in the line: Gwenpool herself! All three heads look fun and animated. Love ‘em, despite my zero interest in this character.
And hey, what evil doppelgänger would be complete without a sinister, flowing cape, right? Evil Gwenpool’s fabric cape is black on the back and pink in the front, and looks like one of the nicest soft goods capes I’ve ever seen. (And oh yeah, she’s got a mini Gwenpool figurine accessory to torture as well. Crazy!)
The MAFEX Evil Gwenpool and Deadpool Gurihiru Ver. action figures are now up for order, and are due to be shipped out in June 2019. There’s no word yet on when that slick MAFEX Venom figure shown at various overseas events will join them for PO, but it can’t happen soon enough for me.
How do you like the third and fourth entries in the MAFEX Marvel series?Do you think this Deadpool stacks up well against the MANY other versions in the land, or is he just another DP despite being a specific artist version? And Evil Gwenpool… be honest: How many of you knew this character existed at all?
I did know about Evil Gwenpool. She shows up in an issue or two of the Gwenpool series, as it was nearing the end. I think she even kills future Miles Morales. Cool-looking, and fun in the story, but definitely not one I’d ever expected a figure of. At the most, I figured some die-hard might make a custom of her.
Maybe the series is more popular in Japan and the figure will sell better there. I’d buy it at $50 or less, but not a big enough fan to spend that much on it.
You got me. No idea.
No idea either. But I guess it’s a great way to reuse the mold that’s done for Gwenpool. So I guess we’ll soon see Deadpool in all colors of the rainbow? I had to drop the extra bucks to get the MAFEX Gwenpool because the Hasbro one was just too ugly, but I’m afraid an obscure character like Evil Gwenpool is not enough to make me drop that much money on her. I’ll wait for a sale or clearance, as I can’t imagine the demand for her will be high.
