I know that there’s no way that I can match the unbridled excitement that yesterday’s discussion of this year’s Marvel Candy Bowls drummed up, so I’m not even going to try to one-up that high mark today. No, instead I’m going to talk about something a little more mass-market. Hasbro has been pleased with the performance of its Marvel Super Hero Mashers toy line over the past year, and in honor of the Avengers Age of Ultron movie, they’re giving us one of the most loaded sets yet: the Marvel Mashers Ultimate Avengers Set with Stealth Iron Man and Captain America figures!

While I was on my quest to find the new Marvel Legends SHIELD Three-Pack with Agent Coulson earlier this week, I came across an item in my travels that I’d seen online before but never in stores: the Marvel Super Hero Mashers Ultimate Avengers Set.

Though it’s far from the most fan-beloved series out there, I’ve developed something of a weakness for the Marvel Masher action figure line as a whole (why, I truly could not say). And thus, I came ever-so-close to picking up this latest deluxe Marvel Mashers box set from Toys R Us for $19.99.

The set includes a grand total of 22 pieces, and includes almost two whole figures (note the stress on the word “almost”).

The Ultimate Avengers Mashers set contents are as follows:

• Marvel Mashers Stealth Captain America Figure (from Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
• Marvel Mashers Stealth Iron Man Head, Torso, and Arms
• Thor Head
• Hawkeye Head
• Hulk Head
• Thor’s Hammer (Mjolnir)
• Hawkeye’s Crossbow
• Hulk Hands
• Captain America Shield
• Vomit Green Arm-Mounted Dual Missile Launcher

Now, I’m one of the biggest advocates of the Hasbro Marvel Mashers action figure line around, but even I think it’s a punk move by Hasbro including all of the parts for an exclusive Stealth Iron Man Mashers figure here except for Stealth Iron Man’s legs. Now anyone who buys this set will be able to not quite build an Iron Man Stealth Mashers figure, with no way of completing the figure (what with the Stealth Iron Man legs not being included elsewhere).

Aside from the glaring omission of the Stealth Iron Man legs, this is an “okay” set. The exclusive Stealth Suit Captain America figure actually looks really nice, and I’d happily have snagged him if he was priced at the regular $9.99 price-point (or perhaps even as a deluxe figure for $14.99).

But seeing as how he’s $19.99 and comes with a bunch of previously-released mismatched parts and two-thirds of a Stealth Iron Man action figure that may never be completed, I just couldn’t justify this purchase. Maybe if Hasbro packs in the legs for Stealth Armor Iron Man down the line I’ll come back and grab this set–otherwise, it’s a no-buy for me.

I haven’t spotted this particular Hasbro Marvel Super Hero Mashers figure set at any physical retailer besides Toys R Us (where it’s $19.99), but the set is readily available online as well (although Amazon is oddly charging more than Toys R Us for it).
