NYCC 2019 Marvel Legends X-Force Warpath Sunspot & Deadpool!

New York Comic Con 2019 has come and gone, and while the number of Hasbro Marvel Legends 2020 figures revealed was probably a bit less than what some fans hoped for, Hasbro still showed off some good stuff—especially keeping in mind that they have four more international conventions in the next month still. I talked about the Stan Lee and Fantastic Four figures previously, so that just leaves the new X-Force Legends Sunspot, Warpath and Deadpool to discuss…

With Hasbro dropping a truckload of new reveals at San Diego Comic Con this year and having a full plate of other events between SDCC and the end of the fall, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect quantitatively as far as NYCC reveals go this year.

It turns out the exact quantitative figure ended up being eight:

  • Stan Lee
  • Mr. Fantastic
  • Invisible Woman
  • Johnny Storm (Human Torch)
  • The Thing
  • X-Men Deadpool
  • Sunspot
  • Warpath

The latter three figures on that list are part of a new Deadpool/X-Force Marvel Legends series due out in fall 2020, which will be made up of seven figures plus the highly-anticipated Strong Guy Build-A-Figure.

To many, a new blue-and-gold Deadpool X-Men costume figure is going to be a bit of a dud given how terribly obscure this outfit is in the comics (with only a few panels of existence).

That said, this is legit my favorite Deadpool costume, and I don’t mind seeing it updated so many years after the original two-pack version. Thumbs mostly up.

Next we’ve got my favorite action figure that debuted at the entire convention: Marvel Legends Sunspot! New Mutants are my jam, but I have such fond memories of playing with my Toybiz X-Force Sunspot figure in this costume that I’m really psyched to get a new and improved version in that specific red and blue uniform.

ML Sunspot comes with the “same old” cosmic effects pieces we’ve seen a billion (hyperbole) times before, but I don’t really mind—these really are the ideal effects to use for Roberto. The team said they’re looking for ways to get new atomic symbol and lighting effects into the line when they can make it cost out.

This Sunspot 6” figure looks downright perfect to me, and I love how well his size contrasts with the last figure revealed for the wave at New York Comic Con…

…Marvel Legends Warpath. While we previously got a Warpath (and X-Force variant) in an exclusive two-pack with Blue and Gold Deadpool years ago, not everyone snagged that figure way back when and a whole new generation of collectors would still like a crack at an updated James Proudstar.

I would have preferred the more iconic yellow belt on this figure (although Warpath did wear a red belt as well during his X-Force days), but I’ve otherwise got no real complaints about this figure.

Warpath is noticeably larger than your standard six inch Legends figure, so he squares off well against The Thing. I don’t know if this will be a “hot” figure once it hits, but I’m sure those building X-Force will be happy to have it.

Fear not if Hasbro hasn’t gotten to your favorite character just yet, 90s X-Force fans! I did ask during the Hasbro interview about the possibility of the 90s X-Force lineup being completed in Marvel Legends form, and the team let us know (without hard confirming anything, obviously) that they’re well aware that the characters they need to complete the lineup are Siryn, Rictor, 90s Domino and Feral.

While obviously that’s not official confirmation of anything, knowing that the Hasbro Marvel Team is keeping tabs on what’s remaining gives us a pretty fair tease that the lineup is going to be completed. The design team also mentioned that a Kane figure has already been sculpted, although isn’t necessarily in the plans right now.

As this wave isn’t set for release until fall 2020, expect pre-orders for the new Deadool & X-Force Marvel Legends series to open online in spring/summer 2020. I’ll post an update here and on our social media with direct links once ordering opens up.

How do you feel about the trio of 2020 Marvel Legends X-Force figures that debuted at NYCC last week? Are you interested in seeing the 90s X-Force lineup completed, or are you satisfied with the characters that we’ve gotten from the series to-date?

NYCC 2019 Marvel Legends X-Force Warpath Sunspot & Deadpool! — 12 Comments

  1. That’s a Warpath figure? It looks more like Thunderbird. Hell, it looks more like a resurrected corps of Thunderbird. The figure itself isn’t bad but the headsculpt is awful.

  2. You write “my favorite Deadpool costume… Thumbs mostly up.” Cut your thumbs, Fonzi! Its a joke costume for DP. Those are Blockbuster colors and like Blockbuster, those colors for DP should be out of biz. Amazon released an exclusive POP in this and it now goes for $5. You had it right with “bit of a dud”. The only worse DP costume is these colors inverse. That’s why POP pez made it the chase or it would be collecting dust at the retailers. It’s an ugly waste and cheap money grab to make this color scheme in any form. So, no it will not be added to the collection. Hasbro and completing DP sets be damned. ^_~ HavaTaco

  3. Interested in Warpath only. I’m a huge New Mutants fan, but that’s not Sunspot in my world. I understand some people grew up in the 90’s and got stuck with inferior versions of these characters though, so to each his own there. It’s not for me though. I’m very glad this wave has Strong Person/Guy/Dude whoever because that will let me just pick one or two figures and leave out the rest. Whew… I was worried the Strong BAF thing was going to be in a wave of figures I actually wanted. Now I can just toss the Strong BAF pieces in the garbage. 🙂

  4. I’m a big Sunspot fan, so it’ll be nice to get a figure of him…I just wish it was him in a better costume. Like, it’s growing on me the more I look at it, but I’d prefer his classic New Mutants look, or even how he looked during Hickman’s Avengers.

Warpath is cool, probably my favorite figure here.

And not too interested in the Deadpool, but if he has a piece of the Strong Guy BAF, guess I’ll have to pick him up.

  5. Like you, Sunspot was one of my favorite Toybiz figures from the 90’s & this looks like it will be one of my favorites in my collection when it is released. The X-men Deadpool is also my favorite iteration of the character and presently the only DP only display in my collection (I love the 3.75 version too) so I will be gratefull to get an updated version. Hopefully they release more of the Mercs for Money I at least want a Slapstick DP. The Warpath is underwhelming in my opinion and I am a big Proudstar fan, I will pick him up but leave my TRU versions on display 😉

I hope they do release Siryn & Rictor soon. I would also like to see Meggan, Cerise, Maverick, Firestar, Justice, Kylun, Generation X, Crystal & Lockjaw, and at the very least some Morph (TAS) heads

  6. X-Force was one of the first mutant teams that I was introduced to, when I started collecting comics. I bought a New Warriors annual, and they squared off against X-Force.

The Warpath figure looks kind of “meh”. I think the headsculpt is terrible, and I think the shoulder pads are a bit large, even for a big character. I just don’t remember them hovering OVER his arms, but instead sitting on the arms.

Sunspot looks good, as that’s the costume I remember from the comics. I’ll definitely buy both to complete my X-Force team, but Warpath is a bit underwhelming.

  7. I don’t normally care for gimmicks in toys, but one of my favorite Toybiz Xmen toys was Rictor. You can wind him up from the back and he shakes! Perfect gimmick for his power.

  8. Very very very very happy that Hasbro is doing what ToyBiz failed to do in both the 90s and again in the 2000s with the 6 inch line.. and that is; complete X-Factor and X-Force!

To me X-Factor is Havok, Polaris, Strong GUY, Quicksilver, Wolfsbane and Multiple Man.

X-Force is Cable, Domino, Cannonball, Siryn, Sunspot, Feral, Rictor, Boomer/Boom Boom/Meltdown, Warpath and Shatterstar.

I roll my eyes when people talk about getting a new Psylocke or a Fantomex figure (whoever that is) so they could complete their so-called “X-Force” collection. The idea that a bunch of X-Men could just dress in black and call themselves “X-Force” is ridiculous. Go back to your blue and gold teams and stop usurping the other X-titles.

  9. They forgot to include that they need to release a real Cannonball figure. The last one didn’t count. At all.

  10. I’m with everyone else who said they’d prefer Sunspot in his New Mutants costume… same for Cannonball. I will get Warpath and probably blue Deadpool too.

  11. I’ve REALLY been looking forward to a Warpath or Thunderbird figure, and I’m the target demographic (adult, nostalgic collector). BUT, I’m hestitant seeing this figure. This costume design and (Liefeld’s interpretation) work best because it is so broad and symetrical (Think Cockrum or Byrne’s most pleasing work). So, the tweaks for this figure would be: a. the shoulderpads should be removeable AND the fringe attached to the shoulders NOT the pads (he looks too much like acwrestler as is), b. the hair needs to be the shorter, poofier Liefeld style rather than long, greasy, stringy, and c. the belt needs to be yellow or gold colored. I wpuld have even taken this figure as a massive BAF if they interpreted him as large as Liefeld often did. Also, by re-configuring with removeable pads, then you could include a second Thunderbird head and save costs. I realize we have no right to complain due to the sheer high volume of high quality product ML has been releasing the last few years, but these buying experiences are subjective. This figure (and Yellowjacket years before) are probably the ones I most anticipated above all. The last decent Thunderbird was the 5in from the Toy Biz boxset from the late 1990s. Selfishly, I really hope they consider retooling it before sending it overseas for production. Thanks.
