Retro is definitely “in” this year as far as figures and collectibles go, and pre-orders have reportedly been very solid for the first of Diamond Select Toys’ Retro Marvel Superheroes figures: the 8″ Mego Spider-Man set.
The second character in the lineup will take this line for a walk on the patriotic side, as the Retro Captain America 8″ figure set has now been put up for pre-order!

Something inside me snapped last week when I got my first Marvel Super Heroes Masher figure, Deadpool. Ever since, I’ve started having a craving for more stylized, kid-friendly Marvel Mashers action figures, and as such I’ve been watching the Marvel Super Hero Mashers section at my local stores like a predatory hawk. While the Marvel Mashers Iceman and Ghost Rider I’ve been on the prowl for haven’t turned up locally yet, the newest wave of Electronic Superhero Mashers have arrived: the Marvel Mashers Iron Spider-Man and War Machine are now available for order online and in some stores!

I’m a self-admitted X-Men fanboy, so I was anticipating this year’s X-Men Marvel Legends 2014 figures even more than the superb Captain America Marvel Legends and Spider-Man Marvel Legends series (not to mention the so-so Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Legends figures). Trying to collect Funko POP! Vinyls is a serious undertaking. The number of products Funko is releasing now on a yearly basis is downright insane, and Funko gives out exclusives like candy. Tracking down all of the exclusives is expensive business–but far better than waiting and paying aftermarket prices for them later on, as Funko exclusives are never reissued. At San Diego Comic-Con 2014, Funko surprised collectors by announcing and showing off a multitude of versions of the first-ever Marvel Funko Hikari Sofubi figure: Spider-Man! Funko didn’t give out a list of the official names for these Spider-Man variants at SDCC 2014, nor did they have release dates or edition sizes for any of them, but now we know who’s up first and it’s a biggie–as in “the largest Funko Hikari figure released to date!” The 10″ Funko Premium Blaze Spider-Man Hikari vinyl figure is now up for order!

…Well, that was fast. Kotobukiya hasn’t exactly been trying to keep it a secret that they have a grey X-Force Deadpool ARTFX+ variant statue in the works for next year, what with them openly talking about it at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 last month and showing off sneak peek photos last week. Even so, for some weird reason I thought that this variant statue wouldn’t be going up for sale for a while yet, as it was scheduled to be a store exclusive. I thought wrong! The statue will be exclusive to all retailers who use Diamond Previews, and the exclusive Kotobukiya Deadpool X-Force ARTFX+ statue variant is now up for order!

While their collector-oriented releases for 2014 are just about at an end, Hasbro still has a plethora of kid-focused Marvel action figures lined up for the second half of 2014! The Hasbro Marvel Super Hero Mashers figures are a line that I legit thought were some sort of prank when they debuted, but their stylized look has really started to grow on me. With the release of the Marvel Legends Agent Venom Walgreens exclusive action figure, all of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends 2014 action figures have now hit stores (with the exception of the Target Marvel Legends Radioactive Man three-pack). Hulk is a unique character in that he doesn’t just change his costume–he changes his entire person when he changes into different forms of himself. But not content with the one-man-army of iterations of himself, Hulk has joined a super-team composed entirely of Hulk-related characters for a currently-airing animated series–“Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.”! The “Hulk and the Agents of SMASH” cartoon series has been running for almost a full year now and has had a successful run, and that means that Hasbro has finally deigned to give fans what they really want: toys!
