Continuing to slog through my massive backlog of Marvel Legends figures that I have queued for review, today I’m looking at one of this year’s most surprising Build-A-Figures. Sasquatch is one of the cheaper complete Marvel Legends BAFs on the aftermarket in quite a while, and has only a tenuous connection to the character whose series he’s the Build-A-Figure of (Deadpool). Is this Hasbro figure worth upgrading to if you already own the Toybiz version?
When I first heard confirmation that a new Marvel Legends Sasquatch figure was in the works, I was like, “What? We already have a perfectly great one from Toybiz!”
Then I made the mistake of actually getting out my Toybiz Sasquatch figure and my jaw about hit the floor. The old Toybiz version is so outdated it’s crazy, with a gangly body and a face right out of a horror movie. It turns out I was totally wrong and Hasbro was totally correct: we did need an improved Sasquatch.
Hasbro opted for a pensive facial expression for this Sasquatch BAF, which, while befitting of Walter Langkowski, is also really dull. The likeness is orders of magnitude better than that of the Toybiz figure, mind you, but it’s hard to get Sasquatch into action poses that look convincing when he looks like he’s ready to take a nap.
While Sasquatch doesn’t have the most visually exciting color palette around, Hasbro did what they could to make this BAF look appealing. He’s covered from head to toe in brown, orange and red-orange “rust” colors that flow into each other without a hitch. The paint shading and gradients on Sasquatch look terrific.
The articulation is rather impressive as well, albeit slightly imperfect. We get ball-hinge ankles with rockers; ball-hinged neck/shoulders/wrists; hinged elbows; double-hinge knees; ball-jointed hips; swivel biceps/thighs/waist and the ever-popular ab crunch.
The lack of double-jointed elbows means he can’t fist pump and grab other characters quite the way I want, but his articulation is solid nonetheless. Marvel Legends Sasquatch’s right arm and some other joints have some looseness to them, but luckily his left arm is strong enough to hold other figures aloft for a beating.
This figure is technically fine, but just like the reasoning for him being the Deadpool Legends Build-A-Figure (he appeared in issue 1 of a Deadpool series), the Sasquatch Marvel Legends figure just isn’t all that exciting.
Overall: Marvel Legends Sasquatch is a model image of a Build-A-Figure which is basically fine, but fails to captivate me in any way. Other than the lack of double-jointed elbows and some weak joints, there’s really nothing wrong with this figure: he’s just kind of… there.
That said, this Sasquatch is on a whole other level than the Toybiz version, absolutely putting that relic to shame. If you’re a Sasquatch fan, this figure is pretty groovy. If you’re ambivalent toward the character like me, you’ll probably be as lukewarm on this figure as I am.
Deadpool and Sasquatch are both from Canada.
“Your welcome, Canada.”
Anyone else torso ab-crunch completely loose?
The one on mine is weird. Depending on how I have it ratcheted, sometimes it’s wobbly and sometimes it’s tight.
Old school Alpha Flight fan here, and I have the Toy Biz version someplace, but this was the first BAF I was so excited for that I bought a complete one from a fellow collector almost immediately. I usually don’t buy whole waves and I was impatient to piecemeal him together. So much better than the previous version, and if forced to choose I prefer the static gave over the previous face, but something in between would have been nice.
Big time Alpha Flight fans like me rejoiced with this figure. I want the whole team now.
So I wanted to comment on a older post..so there is a time limit or something that allows that now? It was about the Thanos Baf Infinity war version. I mean that figure is not that old….I could not find another way to ask this question so I placed it here, sorry for the inconvenience.
To my knowledge you should be able to ask a question on any post. I’ll look into it. What’s your question, though?
Love this figure! Want the twins, Shaman and Snowbird now!
Same, I am also a big fan of the older alpha flight comics, and i would love the rest of the team
Another Alpha Flight fan who was seriously pumped when they announced this figure. In fact, this was the one figure that made me finally give in and start collecting 6″ Legends scale figures. I had previously only collected the 3.75 scale ones.
