A couple months back, Kaiyodo announced the upcoming release of the first Marvel character (and third character overall) in their Revoltech Revolmini line of 4″ micro Revoltech figures: the Revol Mini Iron Man Mark VI from “Iron Man 2”. Fast forward a few months and a multitude of non-Marvel Revolmini announcements later, and Kaiyodo has finally announced and opened pre-orders for the next Marvel Revoltech Micro figure: the Revol Mini War Machine figure is now available for order!
Even though we’re a year past the release of the “Iron Man 3” movie, the most notable armors from “Iron Man 2” remain a popular choice for toy manufacturers developing new product. As such, Kaiyodo has opted to forgo “Iron Man 3” figures in their new micro Revoltech Mini figures line (for now) and focus on the main armors from that movie: first Iron Man Mark VI and now War Machine.
Alongside his trademark shoulder-mounted machine gun, the Revolmini War Machine will include four alternate hands, arm cannons, blast effects pieces, a figure display stand, and an extra stand to support War Machine’s arm when the blast effects are attached to it.
It’s a tad surprising to see Kaiyodo aim for “Iron Man 2” War Machine instead of the “Iron Man 3” War Machine Mark II, as the mold for a War Machine Mark II figure could easily be used for a sure-to-be best-selling Revolmini Iron Patriot action figure. But while Kaiyodo has been actively producing new “Iron Man 3” Revoltech figures since last year, it doesn’t seem they’re too keen on moving into the “Iron Man 3” movie realm with the Revol Mini figure line (at least, not right now).
The retail price on this War Machine Revol Mini figures is 3,300 yen (about $31.60 US), but bearing in mind mark-up by US retailers, the figure will be sold online in the United States for around $38-$40. That’s a pretty hefty price for a 4″ action figure, especially when it’s of a character that has had some pretty great figures in that scale released domestically in the past half-decade.
At $40+ after shipping for figures that aren’t really a huge upgrade over figures I already have in the same scale, the Mini Revoltech War Machine and Iron Man Mark VI just aren’t on my “must buy” list (though I can see where collectors who specialize in 4″ figures would definitely be enticed by these).
The Kaiyodo Revoltech Revolmini War Machine figure is now available for pre-order, and is expected to be released in October 2014. There’s no major distributor of Kaiyodo Revoltech figures in the United States, so if you want this figure domestically, you’re most likely going to have to order it from an online retailer.
Anyone out there looking to pick up Kaiyodo’s newest–and smallest–War Machine figure to date? Would you like to see the Revoltech Mini line expanded, or
