SDCC 2018 is less than a month away, and while many of the major Marvel exclusives for the show are being officially announced a bit later than we’ve become accustomed to, at long last they’re finally rolling out. And this year, I believe The King of Exclusives is setting their own new personal best with a record ten Marvel exclusives, including POPs of MCU Iron Man Mark I, Classic Ant-Man, Kraglin (!!) and… Taika Waititi?!?
Okay, let me start this article off by giving mad props to Funko for giving us a crazy eclectic mix of Marvel San Diego Comic-Con 2018 exclusive POPs that I’d bet quite a bit of money that NO ONE could have predicted (without cheating).
This year’s ten Funko Marvel SDCC 2018 Exclusives includes 7 POP Vinyls, a Rock Candy and a two-pack of Dorbz. Let’s get down to discussing…
Kraglin was confirmed alive by James Gunn following Avengers Infinity War, so if you don’t want poor Rocket Raccoon to be all by his lonesome now, you’ll have to scoop up Yondu’s most loyal subordinate. Great call on this one, Funko!
Also from last year’s Marvel movies, we’ve got a new Thor Ragnarok POP “Thor with Odin-Force” figure. I wasn’t aware that it was the Odin-Force Thor was channeling when he was powered-up in the movie, but I’m willing to take Funko’s word for it, since the next figure on this list is…
POP Taika Waititi. No, seriously. Following in the footsteps of James Gunn, the director of Thor Ragnarok is getting his own POP Vinyls figure. This will be a tough grab, though—limited to just 3000 pieces, Funko Taika Waititi will almost certainly be a grail for scalpers to collect as many as they can of at Comic-Con. In his pink garb with pineapple print on it, though, this Taika Waititi POP just may be worth the extra effort (an expense) to track down.
We’re not done with Thor Ragnarok just yet, though, because there’s also a “Hero Valkyrie” POP Vinyls figure slated for Comic-Con. This is Valkyrie in her armor from the flashback and final battle scenes in the movie, and sure to be popular with the many Valkyrie fans out there. Another solid choice.
Last but not least for the movie POPs, we’ve got a 10 Years of Marvel Studios Iron Man Mark I POP Vinyl figure. We got the comic book version of this armor (in two colors!) via Marvel Collector Corps, but something tells me more people are going to be interested in the movie Mark I figure.
From the Netflix corner of the MCU, we’ve got a Rock Candy Jessica Jones figure. I’ve soured a bit on the Rock Candy series (no pun intended), but I actually think this Jessica Jones looks pretty neat. If I have the chance to snag her at retail for regular price, I just might!
Dorbz as a series doesn’t seem to be healthy (at all), but the line isn’t done yet, as evident by the line’s Marvel two-pack for San Diego Comic-Con: Classic Captain America and Red Skull Dorbz. Dorbz is general seem to be having a rough time at retail, so I’m glad to see a niche character like Red Skull given a chance at life as a convention exclusive.
I’m genuinely surprised that we’re getting a character as significant as the classic comic book version Ant-Man POP as a SDCC exclusive. With the new Ant-Man and the Wasp movie in theaters next month, it seemed like a sure bet at mass retail. Hopefully this fig will be a shared exclusive somewhere it will be easy to obtain (and there’s got to be a comic book Wasp on the way as well, right?!).
The Cheerleader Deadpool Pink Glitter variant is limited to 1000 pieces, which means it’s scalper-bait—but hey, better a silly variant as a truly hard-to-get LE than something essential like Ant-Man, right?
What do you think of this year’s double-digit variety of Funko Marvel SDCC Exclusives? Are there any must-haves for you in this wave, or do you think The King of Exclusives made some wise selections for vinyl figures that would be a bust as mass retail items?
So excited for all of these! Star Wars and DC got SUPER skimpy waves this year, so I was worried about Marvel, but Funko pulled through!
I was shocked by the slim pickings for DC and Star Wars! But hey, I’m not gonna turn my nose up at Red Hood and Cad Bane, that’s for sure!
Not going to SDCC, but I’ll be sure to snag that 2-pack when I see it at TRU…
…aww, nertz 🙁
You so right- The Cheerleader Deadpool Pink Glitter LE 1K IS scalper-bait – started at $150 now at $550 to $800. Idiots. I got the whole set but this one is a joke at those $’s. Good ol Funko is giving DP collectors the BIG FU – i got a figure for them- just one finger…
