I would love to start off this review recounting my decades of love for the Marvel comic books featuring the Black Panther, but, well… I’ve always been pretty ambivalent toward T’Challa. I’ve read all of his first appearances in the classic stories, but he’s just never struck a chord with me. That said, for the second time he’s been released in a series of Marvel Legends figures with a Build-A-Figure that I want, which means I just purchased my second Marvel Legends Black Panther figure–from the 2013 Marvel Legends Wave 5 Rocket Raccoon Series…

We knew going into this weekend’s D23 Expo 2013 that that first series of Disney Vinylmation Marvel figures wasn’t going to be until fall, so there were zero expectations for an early release at the convention or anything like that. But sometimes it’s nice to have the bar set low, because then you can be pleasantly surprised!
No, Disney didn’t sell the series at the show, but they did give out free promotional trading cards showing off photos of the Vinylmation Marvel Series 1 figures for the very first time!

That tease has now paid off in dividends, as Kotobukiya has shown off half of the lineup for their comic-based Marvel NOW! Avengers ArtFX+ line at SDCC 2013: Captain America, Black Widow and the Hulk statues!

I also run a LEGO and Mega Bloks blog, so I always have my ear to the ground, listening for LEGO news and rumors. And today I heard a pretty loud rumble regarding two brand-new, previously unannounced LEGO Marvel SDCC Exclusive minifigures: a LEGO Spider-Woman Minifigure and a LEGO Spider-Man Minifigure (in movie costume!)

One of the most impressive roll-calls in the Bowen Marvel Statues line is the huge assortment of Spider-Man villains immortalized as statues. And Randy Bowen has recently shared a concept sketch of a proposed upcoming piece of a Marvel villain who’s never been done in this form before: it’s the Bowen Shocker Statue!

Last year’s assortments with figures like Jubilee and Blastaar bled into this year and saturated stores, while some figures like 2012 Marvel Universe Nova have been near-impossible to find in stores. And all the while, the first Marvel Universe 2013 single-packed figures haven’t yet arrived. But what did arrive was the first assortment of 2013 Marvel Universe Team Packs including the Inhumans, West Coast Avengers and X-Men. And take heart if you haven’t bought them yet–they’re now on clearance!

From “Captain America The First Avenger”, it’s the Hot Toys Captain America Star Spangled Man Sixth-Scale figure!

They also released another gift to Sideshow Marvel Premium Format Figure collectors: a sole teaser photo of a totally unexpected character.
It’s the all-new Sideshow Collectibles Black Widow Premium Format Figure–and this time, it’s the comic book version of the character!
Continue Reading →My favorite character in The Avengers movie isn’t Captain America or Thor or Iron Man or even Loki (okay, Loki is close). No, my favorite characters in Marvel’s The Avengers film is Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. Joss Whedon can make you fanboy out over a character like nobody else, and then make you curse Whedon’s name as he ruthlessly kills that character off. Luckily, you can’t keep a good S.H.I.E.L.D. agent down, and Phil Coulson will return to screens this fall in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series. And to celebrate the occasion, the amazing Hot Toys Agent Phil Coulson Movie Masterpiece Series figure has now been released!

People said that the design didn’t lend itself well to the work that Hot Toys does, or that the figure was just too big to be produced, or that the project was taking too long and would be cancelled. But today, Hot Toys has definitely proven all of those people wrong. The Hot Toys Avengers Hulk figure has now been released overseas, and it is one massive beauty of a figure!

Coming later in 2013–the first-ever series of Marvel Vinylmation vinyl figures–the Disney Vinylmation Marvel Series #1 featuring The Avengers!
