When Diamond Select Toys announced the three figures making up the totality of their Avengers Age of Ultron Marvel Select lineup, the choices weren’t met with universal praise. In fact, many collectors turned their noses up entirely at the AOU Hulk and Thor figures. But now that the Avengers 2 Marvel Select Hulk figure I ordered online has arrived, it’s very clear to me that (redo or not) this is an outstanding (and humongous) movie Hulk action figure that utterly smashes every other AOU Hulk figure released thus far…

Over my years of attending cons, I’ve passed people wearing shirts with the slogan “Anime: Crack is Cheaper” dozens of times. Well, I think that motto could be modified a bit into a very appropriate “Collecting Vinyl Figures: Crack is Cheaper”. I have a serious vinyl figure addiction that extends to many lines–but not the Medicom Marvel Retro Sofubi line. At least, not until now–the Retro Rocket Raccoon & Hulk Sofubi figures are now up for order!

While Funko has traditionally kept their comic book movie lines of POP Vinyl figures reasonably small, after the runaway success of last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy POP! Vinyls, Funko has started to think big! As such, even though the movie isn’t even out yet, Funko already has twelve Avengers Age of Ultron POP Vinyls figures either already in stores or on the way! Three of those figures are exclusive variants, and while the first exclusive I picked up is the Funko Gamma Glow Hulk POP Vinyl, I unfortunately can’t exactly give him a glowing review…

Disney has virtually eliminated all trading at the Disney Parks, and the number of series and limited-edition sets coming out this year is a meager fraction of what we’ve seen in past years. Someone, somewhere, started the unsubstantiated rumor that Hot Toys would never make another 1/6 Hulk figure after the original Avengers movie version. I don’t know why, but that stigma stuck and spread, so a lot of collectors really thought that there wouldn’t be a Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron Hulk figure released. But surprise–! Not only is Hot Toys releasing a new AOU Hulk–they’ve got a second version in a Hot Toys Hulk Deluxe Set available for order as well!

See, Funko charges $80 each for their Hikari Sofubi vinyls; Hikaris take up a ton of space, and Funko releases a half-dozen colorways of every mold. And I’ve bought all the Marvel ones so far. All of them. So at New York Toy Fair 2015, my heart soared–and my wallet cried–when the Funko Hikari Hulk and Iron Man figures were revealed!

It’ll take a lot for Kotobukiya to impress me with movie-based ARTFX+ statues.” Well, today Kotobukiya unveiled the very first two Kotobukiya Age of Ultron ARTFX+ statues, and it’s time for me to open my mouth and eat some crow, because both are absolute must-buys: the Kotobukiya Hulkbuster Iron Man and Hulk ARTFX+ statues have now been revealed!

Hasbro Avengers Age of Ultron 2.5″ Figures Revealed!

When Hasbro marched out the Guardians of the Galaxy 2.5″ figures last year, they weren’t exactly met with abundant love and praise. While the smaller scale allowed Hasbro to produce affordable in-scale vehicles, the figures themselves were lacking in articulation, paint apps and sculpting detail, making them some of the most collector-derided Marvel figures of 2014. Collectors used to the Marvel Universe style of super-articulated 3 3/4″ figures were just not impressed. And it looks like they’ll continue to be unimpressed in 2015, as a series of Hasbro Avengers Age of Ultron 2.5″ figures is on the way… along with a Quinjet and Avengers Tower playset!

When Hot Toys announced we’d be seeing some of their Avengers: Age of Ultron Movie Masterpiece Series figures debut at this week’s Toy Soul 2014 event, I kinda didn’t realize that they meant they were bringing almost the whole lineup to the show. Even so, Hot Toys brought the core six members of the Avengers, as well as Thanos and Hulkbuster Iron Man to the event. But while some figures look polished and amazing, some of them are clearly just in-development placeholders. And the most obvious culprits of being works-in-progress are the Age of Ultron Thor and Hulk figures…
