Toy Fair 2019 Preview: Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Series Announced!

Earlier this year, rumors began swirling regarding an all-new unannounced series of Hasbro Marvel 80th Anniversary Marvel Legends Figures. I don’t like to comment on leaked news—especially with Toy Fair coming up fast—so I haven’t talked about those rumors up until now. But today, things changed—because they’re rumors no more! As announced during the Hasbro Investor Preview Event today, the new 80th Anniversary Marvel Legends figures series will be revealed at New York Toy Fair 2019 this weekend!

Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Figures Announcement Banner Toy Fair 2019

On the eve of the 2018 Toy Fair (almost exactly a year to the day in the past), retailers shocked the world by suddenly placing the first MCU 10th Anniversary Legends six inch figures up for sale: MCU Iron Man Mark VII, Captain America and Crossbones.

It looks like cosmic rays really can strike twice, because the day before the 2019 Toy Fair, Hasbro has revealed the first five figures in the previously unconfirmed “80 Years of Marvel” Legends series!

From the small teaser image Hasbro revealed today during their Investor Preview Event, we can make out these five new figures: First Appearance Wolverine, Comic-based Classic Hulk, Classic Captain America, Classic Iron Man and Classic Thor. In case you missed the overall theme of this quintet: they’re all classic comic book-inspired figures.

This is the first time Hasbro has released a mostly-new comic book Hulk Legends figure in years, and the new ML Hulk looks phenomenal. He appears to have butterfly shoulder swivels, and is all but confirmed to come with interchangeable hands and a ripped shirt accessory. I think this will be replacing Toybiz Face-Off Hulk in many collectors’ collections!

Marvel Legends 80 Years Figures PreviewOther highlights of the Toy Fair 2019 preview image include the sculpted (!) mail on Captain America’s costume, the First Appearance Wolverine that X-Men fans have been asking for for ages, and the first genuinely classic-looking Thor and Iron Man in years. If the rest of the 80th Anniversary Wave is as good as these figures, 6” collectors are in for a real treat this year (and Hasbro is in for a lot of our money)!

For the MCU movie-only collectors out there, though—take heart! Several never-before-done MCU Legends figures are heavily rumored to be included as part of this Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary series. More on this tomorrow. Stay tuned!

I’ll be posting photos and information live from the Hasbro Press Event at New York Toy Fair Saturday afternoon, so be sure to follow the Marvel Toy News Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter to get my latest news from the show as soon as I’ve posted it.

What do you think of our first look at the 80 Years ML figures, and what are your hopes and dreams for the rest of the series, Marvel collectors?

Toy Fair 2019 Preview: Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Series Announced! — 16 Comments

  1. I’m getting all of these guys for sure. I love how they posed the Hulk in the same way as his old 70s counterpart from Mego’s Pocket Super Heroes line! That’s quite a nod to Bronze Age collectors on Hasbro’s part.

  2. These are awesome! Except for that Iron Man. I’m only about a year and a half in collecting ML’s, so I still need some heavy hitters, and that Hulk, Thor, and Captain America is exactly what I’m looking for in all 3 of those characters, since I don’t have any of those characters, except for a couple Thors in MCU form. So, it will be great getting these!

  3. For an 80th anniversary of Marvel, they better have comic based characters. The movies are a drop in the bucket of what Marvel represents to pop culture.

  4. $10 gets you $20 that this is how we finally get that Silvestri/Lee Storm. If the X Men vintage wave is confirmed with 90’s Cyclops/Jean/Rogue like I suspect; even the most casual collector would be able to build the cartoon team without selling an organ on the black market.

I also expect to see a F4 boxset with all new colors (plus Dr. Doom). Maybe a new Daredevil. A new Bring On The Bad Guys wave. And maybe a few classic Avengers. To go along with the Classic team they revealed today.

I’m so excited! Reminds me of the old school Toyfare days again!!!

    • What would we need a Daredevil for though? Not saying they wouldn’t. They put out the same figures over and over constantly. Iron Man, Cap, Spider-man, Deadpool… over and over and over and over.

  5. Definitely liking the Thor and Hulk figures, & Cap also appears to be an improvement over the vintage / were-Cap versions. Still on the fence regarding iron man and I don’t really need wolverine but hey he’s part of a 2-pack. One question I have is whether this cap is the rumoured ultimate rider or if he’s part of the Alex Ross line.

The leaked photo of Hulk and of Grandmaster look awesome, too!

    • Also i’m sure Dabid will post about this later but Target has a couple of Spidey 2-packs up for pre-order RIGHT NOW. Namely the Kraven 2-pack and a Spider-Man Homecoming 2-pack (with Spidey and MJ (Zendaya)). Both look pretty sweet are are $39.99 apiece.

[ Even more off topic, target also has up for preorder some reproductions of classic kenners star wars figures (Luke and Vader) for $9.99 each ]

      • Thanks for the heads-up! I got the Kraven 2-pack, but the classic Star Wars repros sold out before I could get my cart out through the payment section! I had no idea that these were on the way until now!

        • yeah those star wars ones sold out super-quick, guess there’s a lot of folks like us who have nostalgia for those old figs lol.

      • There is also a pre-order for Magneto, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch 3 pk on Amazon right now. They all look really good! $60

  6. This is very good! I’m still using Face Off Hulk, Face Off Cap, and Walmart Giant Man Thor as my presentation pieces. These look like worthy upgrades!

  7. Based on what’s posted here, I thought Hulk looked really basic, and I had no interest at all. I went looking for more online and found the posed photo with the ripped shirt, and now I’m seeing what everyone’s impressed about. Way better than this little figure in a box photo.

  8. Finally…A classic Thor! I hope Hasbro continues producing classic figures. This is wishful thinking, but with all the advances in making descent head sculpts, I’m hoping for an upgrade to Steranko’s Nick Fury. The old one just doesn’t make the cut.
