Dipping back into my bag of hi-res photos that I took at New York Toy Fair 2018 last month, today I’m taking a look at the first-ever Hasbro Marvel Legends Venom series of 6” figures! While Hasbro didn’t show the entire series at Toy Fair, they did unveil three new figures to complement the previously-revealed Venom and Carnage: Spider-Ham, Scream and a Poison! And hey—what’s this about a Monster Venom Build-A-Figure…?
We had already seen official photos of the repainted Carnage and Venom figures prior to Toy Fair, but we got the first look at their alternate “unmasked” Cletus Kassidy and Eddie Brock heads at the show.
The Eddie Brock head looks a little too big on the Venom body right now for my taste, but I LOVE the psychotic serial killer grin on the updated Marvel Legends Carnage figure.
I hope Hasbro double-packs both of these figures in the case assortment, because they are going to be in massive demand.
Perhaps the craziest Hasbro reveal of all at the show was Marvel Legends Spider-Ham figure, which includes a Pork Grind symbiote head that can be attached to the Venom body (no, really).
I’ve heard a lot of hate for this Spider-Ham Legends figure because of the apparent lack of articulation, but I love how smooth and cartoon-like he looks. This was in my Top 10 Marvel Legends Revealed at New York Toy Fair 2018 List, and I stand by it.
Marvel Legends Scream will be the second of the five Life Foundation Symbiotes to get a Hasbro 6” figure this year. I like that we’re getting a female symbiote figure, and the colors and deco for the Scream action figure look awesome. I think this figure may end up being a surprise hit at retail.
With all things symbiote consistently selling well for Hasbro, can it be long before we get Agony, Phage and Riot to finish the quintet?
Finally, we’ve got a character that’s only been around for about a year: a Marvel Legends Poison.
For those not keeping up with the comics, Poisons are predators that prey upon symbiotes and bond permanently with their hosts, consuming their memories and essences (that’s some scary shit right there).
I really dig the white and black color scheme for this figure, even though a ML Poison wasn’t even in my top 1000 most-wanted Marvel Legends figures. With its slick appearance, I think this will sell just fine, however.
Venom has had a lot of monstrous looks over the years, so it’s totally up for speculation whether this is a multi-headed Venom The Madness figure, a movie figure, or something else entirely. Regardless, I’m pretty sure whatever the Monster Venom Build-A-Figure actually ends up being will be very cool.
The Hasbro Venom Legends series should be available for order sometime in late summer or early fall 2018, and is expected to be a mass-release set of figures available at all major retailers and online stores. I’ll post official photo and release info here and to our social media pages once that information is available.
Now that we’ve seen the majority of the Venom Marvel Legends series, what do you think of the lineup, Marvel collectors? Who do you hope fills the last slot(s), and what sort of design for the Monster Venom BAF would most appeal to you?
I told myself I’d never pre-order another case ever again after the Lizard BAF wave, but I just might have to… again.
Hmmm $80 Revoltech Carnage vs this series…
Maybe why Venom’s head is so big, is because it can swap on to “Monster Venom”. Giving some compensation. Just a theory, of course.
Not a bad lineup.
Venom’s head is way to huge.
Scream’s paintjob could be way better (Her arms and legs are supposed to look like red covered in yellow, not just yellow with some red)
Spider-Ham’s legs are frustrating.
Poison almost looks like he’s based on Iron Man?
Carnage is a cool rerelease/upgrade for a figure that is bonkers crazy expensive.
As far as monster Venom goes, I just HOPE he’s a the proper full-sized hulking monstrous Venom that we so frequently see. The size of the Venom SpaceKnight figure.
The little Hyperion body mold Venom is annoyingly small.
(Also, the Hyperion body mold is bar-none the worst Marvel Legends body mold, and that even WITH the improvements of the Odinson chest parts replacing the old Hyperion ones.)
The Madness Venom would be alright.
Hard to imagine what else a Monster Venom could even be, other than a full-sized Venom or Venom The Madness.
Yeah the Eddie Brock looks too big. Just look at the size of his eyebrow compared to say, the size of one of his fingers.
I’m pretty much a “Nope” across the board on this wave, which is rare for me.
(I will note, however, that the Poison design is pretty cool, though I don’t know and have no investment in the character. I was kinda confused because of this, thinking the figure was going to be the Cuban female vigilante from way back in the Evolutionary War.)
I was thinking/hoping the Poison figure was going to be the undead symbiote Peter Parker version.
Spider-Ham absolutely needs to come with a bunch of accessories.
Yeah seriously. Or like a whole other figure…
Yeah, like a whole other figure with functioning legs.
Lee Price as Venom was huge. Since they put in the new character of Poison, my money is on that
Eddie Brock Venom is usually huge.
Hasbro just can’t make a proper classic venom. I hate the hyperion body mold, it has the worst anatomy body proportions. What is with the huge heads HASBRO? It doesn’t look right! Who ever is the designer needs to be fired, I m sorry that is just sad.
Remaining slots will be for movie version venom and carnage figs?
Slots are:
Comic Venom x2
Comic Carnage x2
Poison x1
Spider Ham x1
Scream x1
Typhoid Mary x1
No movie characters.
Has that been officially confirmed by Hasbro? I could see them doing at least movie Venom and Carnage. If not here, maybe a wave 2 or 2019 Spider-Man wave.
It has not been officially confirmed by Hasbro. Those leaked lists are incorrect often enough that I tend not to talk about them on the site (although they have been shockingly DEAD ON this year).
Let’s just say it’s EXTREMELY unlikely that an unsanctioned MCU wannabe Venom movie will get any movie figures.
Hasbro pretty obviously takes their cues/orders from Marvel/Disney. Marvel/Disney has NOT given this movie their real approval.
Supposedly Venom is only in his own movie for five minutes anyway. No point in making that figure. Just give us comic book stuff.
I love that we’re finally getting the Life Foundation symbiotes, but… I really wish Hasbro would’ve gone all-out and given us some actual symbiote texturing of some kind. Rather than a whole bunch of figures that are, heads and accessories aside, mostly just plain bucks painted up in two colors.
Also while Carnage looks pretty good, that Venom is laughably bad. The head proportion is terrible, and why can’t Hasbro drop a little shading/shadowing on Venom, ever? I hope that effect bit is removable. Of course, I’m the camp that wants a properly HUGE Brock Venom, like Space Knight, Sandman, or Rhino.
Hopefully they continue with the symbiotes and deliver more Maximum Carnage characters. I wouldn’t mind a Spidercide BAF from the Maximum Clonage series either. I know lots of people hated those stories but that’s what I grew up with.
You and I are totally on the same wavelength – Spidercide can basically be gotten from the Space Venom mold w/a new head + deco! He and Kaine (original costume) are two huge wants of mine from the Clone Saga. And yeah, I want all the Maximum Carnage characters – Demogoblin, Shriek, Carrion, Firestar, etc.
I won’t be happy until we get Doppleganger.
A Demogoblin figure already exist and just hasn’t been released yet for some reason. It was to come out a couple Spider-Man waves ago. Maybe they’re trying to space out the Goblins a bit more….
It’s INSANE that we still don’t have Firestar. She’s the last one we need for both Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends AND for the Marvel Divas.
She would be SO EASY to do.
Agreed about Firestar. She’s been one of my most wanted characters for YEARS now, and there’s still no sign of her.
I remember Demogoblin being rumored in what I’m guessing is the Gwenpool spot in the most recent SM wave. I’d rather have Demogoblin – hopefully he’s been delayed to fit in a more cohesive wave. I *really* want a Maximum Carnage wave (and would settle for an SDCC set).
Oh yea, you’re right, Demogoblin was supposed to be the 7th figure in THIS wave instead of Lasher.
Just like ANAD Spider-Man was supposed to be the 7th figure in the Sandman wave until he got swapped out for ANAD Spidey 2099.
We almost always end up getting these rumored figures somewhere shortly down the line when the rest of their rumored wave turns out to be true.
Like we had to wait a while to get the unreleased King Cobra and Crossbones figures from the Civil War GiAnt-Man wave, but here they are. We now have King Cobra and Crossbones is in the 10 years 2-pack.
There’s still a Tigra figure from the wave that we never got, so she’s probably coming soon.
The ANAD Spidey figure got released in the 2-pack with Mary Jane a few months later.
We were supposed to get a Dead No More Jackal or Gwen Stacy in the Vulture BAF wave, so one or both of them are probably floating around waiting for release.
(Dead No More Jackal would be so insanely easy. Just the suit body in red with an Anubis head….)
We were supposed to get Executioner as either a figure or a BAF in the Ragnarok wave. So he’s probably out there.
When they come from rumor lists that turn out to be 100% accurate otherwise, you have to assume that these figures were true too and they just got bumped or cut for some reason.
In an interview Dwight gave recently he said they actually have a Firestar figure done and they wanted her in one of the Spiderman waves but Marvel said no, she’s strictly a mutant and has to be in a mutant wave. Pretty dumb given she’s almost universally thought of as either a Spiderman character or New Warriors.
The Spider-Ham is a huge buy for me. I didn’t realize the Pork Grind head fit on the Venom, so I’ll be getting that too! For my wallet, I’ll pass on the rest.
I’m guessing/hoping that Pork Grind Head is more for the BAF monster Venom, because that Venom body is Laaaaame.
Thank gosh for this series. I’ve been needing a Carnage, and I didn’t want to spend $70+ dollars on the old ML Carnage.
All the other figures look pretty good too, Scream especially, but Carnage is the must have for me.
even ignoring the massive Eddie Brock head, what the hell’s going on with the length of his neck? What would’ve been a sure fire pick up for me has been reduced to wait until it’s in the bargain bin pick. I’m hoping that whole neck/tendril part is removable, at least then I can use an old Cap head to make it kind of acceptable
This set looks pretty good. I have both of the original Venom and Carnage releases. I like the original venom with the 2 interchangeable heads. This release is missing the tongue head, which to me is the best look! Plus as others state, his neck looks weirrrrrrd.
Carnage looks good. I should prolly sell off the original goblin wave one i have and pick this up. I will also be picking up Scream as she looks cool. The rest is a pass.
On a side note, anyone know where to find a cap infinity war at retail 19.99? I’ve looked at Walmart/Target/Toys R Us multiple times in my area over the past few weeks and that whole wave just is always sold out. Except maybe 1-2 iron man’s. And online is worse ebay and Amazon scalpers both want $30+! I don’t even want the cap figure I need the Thanos head for my BAF.
I’m already pretty happy with my Marvel Select Venom and old ML Carnage. No real interest in Scream (or Lasher, or any of them), so another miss for me. Will definitely be picking up Spider-Ham, and probably that Poison, because he’s actually an alternate version of Spider-Man (Peter) who still had the symbiote when he was taken over by a Poison – https://scontent-amt2-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/21690436_117310942300698_746716653235994624_n.jpg. If Typhoid Mary is accurate as the final character, I’ll probably get her, too, but I’m super curious what costume they’ll be using for the fig if that’s the case.
Eddie Brock’s head is Masters of the Universe sized. How can that have even been approved? Who are these people that get to decide these things? Any of them ever buy action figures before. Or in this case, ever seen a human being?
