Collectors who are hardcore about keeping their Diamond Select Toys Marvel Gallery statues line complete are in for a rough time this year, as DST has been releasing quite a few exclusives to keep us on our toes (including four SDCC Exclusive statues). And now, another pair have landed: Toys R Us Exclusive Marvel Gallery Deadpool Ice Edition and Retro Iron Man!
But this latest store exclusive Deadpool Marvel Gallery variant…? Well… alas. I gotta admit, it is pretty lame. Now arriving at Toys R Us stores nationwide, it’s the Deadpool Ice Edition statue!
Right about now, you’re probably looking at this statue and thinking to yourself: “Isn’t this just the regular Deadpool figure that was the first figure actually released in this series?”
And the answer is “Yes… and no.”
In fact, I actually walked right past this at Toys R Us when I saw it earlier in the week, because I thought they were just getting stock in of the regular Deadpool Gallery statue. Only after I read that there was in fact a new variant did I go back to take photos and verify what I had actually seen.
Behold–! The Marvel Gallery Ice Deadpool statue, which varies from the regular version in that the base is clear blue instead of clear yellow and he now comes wielding Sais! (Ummm… Yay?)
As far as DST exclusives go, Ice Edition Deadpool is easily one of the weakest ones I’ve ever seen. Luckily, he’s not the only TRU exclusive now shipping: a Marvel Gallery Retro Iron Man statue is also hitting stores now.
While this isn’t exactly an earth-shattering variant, it is a legitimate one based off of a costume seen in numerous comic books over the years and that I’ve seen some collector interest in getting, so it’s at least more credible than the Ice Deadpool exclusive.
Both these Marvel Gallery statue variants are arriving now at Toys R Us stores for $39.99, which is actually 5 bucks below the standard pricing for the series. Tough to complain about limited exclusives getting priced like that, even if the changes to the statues aren’t humongous. I won’t be picking up either of these variations myself, but I’m definitely curious about how many readers are excited for either of these.
What do you think of the two latest additions to the DST Marvel Gallery figure line, collectors? Are you picking up either of these pieces, and how do you feel in general about minor aesthetic variants like the Deadpool Ice Edition?
