We may still have almost a month of summer to go, but it’s never to early start planning ahead for the holidays—or at least, Funko thinks so! While we’ve only gotten a couple holiday Marvel Funko items in the past, The Big F is going all-out this year with whole series of both Holiday Marvel POP Vinyls and Pint-Size Heroes now up for PO! Behold the majesty of Ugly Sweater Thanos and Snowman Captain America!
So when Funko officially announced 10 specially-themed Holiday Marvel vinyl figures today? Yeah—just pull my money directly from my wallet and toss these in the stocking by my fireplace, Funko.
I was a huge fan of the 2015 POP Bobblers Groot and Rocket Raccoon ornaments (that everyone else seemed to hate), so I’m delighted to see a more expansive selection of Funko holiday vinyls.
The Holiday Pint-Size Heroes are the clear winner between the two festive series, IMO, with the Death Sweater-wearing Thanos being one of Funko’s funniest concepts to-date. The whole Holiday PSH wave of blind bags consists of:
- Ugly Sweater Spider-Man
- Christmas Tree Groot
- Ugly Death Sweater Thanos
- Holiday Squirrel Girl
- Holiday Rocket Raccoon with Sled
- Snowman Captain America
These Holiday Pint-Size Heroes are wonderfully creative, and I love the little details like Squirrel Girl’s acorn earrings and Captain America’s patriotic scarf. Ugly Sweater Spider-Man is a bit dull, but the rest of the wave is pretty ace.
The Holiday Marvel POP Vinyls are comparatively kind of weak, in my opinion. The Christmas Tree Groot POP upscales very well and is as just as cute as the PSH, but the other three disappoint me a bit.
Holiday Hulk is just Hulk randomly holding a stocking and present, Deadpool wielding candy canes might have been cuter with a Santa hat or something, and Ugly Sweater Spider-Man now as a POP still doesn’t really tickle my fancy. (I’m buying them all, mind you, but still—I wish the Holiday POPs were as clever as the Pint Size Heroes.)
The Funko Holiday Marvel Pint-Size Heroes and POP Vinyls figures are now available for pre-order, and are scheduled to be shipped out in late November/early December 2018 (just in time for the holidays!). I’ve long since given up on being a Funko completist (I have neither the exorbitant amount of space nor money that would require), but as a self-professed Christmas freak, I need all these. Love, love, love that we’re getting these, even if some of the POPs could be more creative.
Obviously it’s still a couple months before most folks want to think about Christmas, but since Hallmark’s already got their Keepsake ornaments out in stores, I think all’s fair. What about you? Do any of these holiday Funko items strike your fancy, and will you be snatching up some of these as gifts for loved ones (or yourself)?
I saw this announcement and showed my sister. It was nothing but “Oh nos” and “Awws” from both of us. We’re trying to cut back on funkos but it’s Spidey in an ugly sweater…
We will most definitely be looking into snagging these guys.
