It’s that time of year once again! It’s hard to believe, but it’s been around a full year now since we got our last limited exclusive Marvel Hot Toys Movie Promo figures–Battling Captain America and New Avengers Scarlet Witch. Traditionally, the Marvel Movie Promo figures sell out within hours and skyrocket on the aftermarket. It will definitely be interesting to see if this year’s follows suit, though: the Hot Toys Spider-Man Homecoming Iron Man figure is now up for order!

At this point, there aren’t too many Spider-Man villains that have never had an official 6″ Marvel Legends figure released at least once. But one character that’s been overlooked–at least until now–is the albino mob enforcer, Tombstone. I am not a gamblin’ man, so I was not altogether thrilled when I had to roll the dice and hope for the best when Amazon created a listing for a new movie Homecoming Spider-Man Marvel Legends figure with an incorrect old stock photo on Friday. Thankfully, not only did my hunch that this was a new figure pay off–it turned out that instead of the old Amazing Spider-Man 2 figure incorrectly pictured, it was actually my most-wanted figure in the wave: the 6″ Marvel Legends Homemade Suit Spider-Man figure!

If there was a meter that gauged how much of a Hot Toys fanboy you are, I would have caused it to utterly explode a long time ago. I’ve got at least one of every sixth scale Hot Toys Marvel character that’s been released, and God knows how many Iron Man figures. In short, I am hopelessly addicted. I wanted to lead off with that information because it really gives weight to what I’m about to say. When Target stores suddenly started restocking the original 2014 Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy series of figures a couple months ago, I speculated it was because 2017 GOTG Wave 2 wouldn’t be out for a while and Hasbro probably wanted Gamora and Rocket available before the movie hit. There’s no question that the Marvel figure collecting landscape is getting a little bit crowded over the last few years. There’s more Marvel toys coming out than ever before, and it can be difficult for new lines to find traction. Of the many Funko Marvel Collector Corps boxes that have shipped since the advent of the series, the single most divisive box among subscribers was the MCC Guardians of the Galaxy box that shipped at the end of 2015. Bandai Japan announced that they had acquired the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 license a few months back, but I started getting a little fidgety wondering if they were actually going to use it when April arrived and we hadn’t seen a single prototype. Alas, poor Sunfire! Back in the day, when Marvel first created the Big Hero 6, Sunfire was the headliner character placed on the team to lure fans in to reading the comic book. And now…? Now the rest of the Big Hero 6 team members are known and loved worldwide because of the movie, while Sunfire remains in relative obscurity.
