For years, sixth scale collectors who love Marvel comics themselves and not necessarily the movies have felt left out in the cold and abandoned. Every exquisite new Marvel Hot Toys sixth scale figure released has been a little bit of salt rubbed into the wound, as increasing number of Marvel movie-based 1/6 figures are released year after year. But sixth scale collectors who are Marvel comic book fans won’t have to feel unloved any longer–at San Diego Comic Con 2014, Sideshow Collectibles announced the impending line of Sideshow Marvel sixth scale figures based on the comics!
Heading into SDCC 2014 this week, I really didn’t have my hopes up for hearing about many new and exciting products. I feel like I have my finger pretty tightly on the pulse of the toy industry, and as a result the majority of news that crops up is something I’ve already been expecting. But to my delight, there was one hugely surprising development that popped up on SDCC 2014 Preview Night: Sideshow Collectibles’ acquisition of a Marvel Comics sixth scale figures license!
But while I love my Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series figures, I’ve been feeling a bit of a void in my sixth scale collection having only movie-based characters and nada based on the comics I adore so much. Luckily, that’s not going to be an issue any more in the near-future, as Sideshow Collectibles is aiming to make me take out a second mortgage (but little do they know, I haven’t even paid off a first one!).
Sideshow displayed the first two figures in the Sideshow 12″ Marvel figures line at San Diego Comic Con 2014 Preview Night: Deadpool and Wolverine. The Sideshow Deadpool Sixth Scale figure is scheduled to be the first figure in the line, followed by the Sideshow Wolverine Sixth Scale figure and a Sideshow Punisher Sixth Scale Figure.
The Deadpool 1/6 scale figure at the event looked pretty decent thus far, and is a definite pre-order for me once he goes up for sale. I’m not 100% sold on this line just by virtue of it being a sixth scale Marvel line, but I really do want to be won over. Impress me, Sideshow!
I like that Sideshow chose the Brown Costume Wolverine for the figure, but the prototype they showed at SDCC 2014 still looks very rough and clearly has a long way to go in development. The Punisher 1/6 figure isn’t on display at the event at all. Sideshow has posted a short video giving some teaser shots of the first trio of their sixth scale Marvel Comics figures, however, including The Punisher.
Sideshow has not announced any pre-order dates or expected release dates for the Sideshow Marvel Sixth Scale Collection, so I would imagine we have a pretty lengthy wait in front of us before we get even one of these figures in hand (and that first figure will be Deadpool).
I’ll update over the course of the coming months as more info on this Marvel 1/6 line comes available, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have news and photos sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed.
What do you think of the newly-announced Sideshow Collectibles Marvel 1/6th Scale Figures Collection, Marvel fans? Will these Marvel figures fill the hole in your heart, or are 12″ Marvel Comics figures not something you have a whole lot of interest in?
