Because I basically eat, drink and sleep toys, I’m immersed in collecting culture pretty much 24/7. And as such, sometimes other collectors who I think are being overly demanding can grate on my nerves just a little bit. This was the case when the exclusive Marvel Select Groot figure went up for order online earlier this month and a number of folks complained he was a ripoff because he didn’t come with a free Rocket Raccoon figure. Earlier today I discussed the Marvel Select Netflix Daredevil and Spider-Gwen figures that we weren’t expecting to see debut at New York Toy Fair 2017 over the weekend, and now it’s time to take a look at the two figures we absolutely were expecting to see premiere at the show: Marvel Select Spider-Man Homecoming costume and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Star-Lord! Ordinarily I don’t like to throw around arbitrary awards like “Best in the Show” for the various conventions and events where collectibles companies show off their latest products, but there was one company at New York Toy Fair 2017 that really “wow”-ed me like never before, and that was Diamond Select Toys. Not only did Diamond Select bring surprise additions to their long-running Marvel Select series, but they also debuted over a dozen new Marvel statues at the show and really cemented themselves as a force in the Marvel statue world. And among those new reveals were their first-ever MCU PVC statues: the Marvel Gallery Guardians of the Galaxy statues!

I’m not one to put any stock in leaked UPC lists, but when the Hasbro Marvel Legends Ex Nihilo figure was announced last night, that pretty much sealed the deal that the list of 2017 Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Wave 2 figures that had been circulating for weeks was the real deal and not just a rumor. And at the Hasbro Brand Toy Fair 2017 event today, we got official confirmation and also our first look at the rest of GOTG Marvel Legends Wave 2–including Nebula, Baby Groot and the Mantis Build-A-Figure!

Well, the news that we expected to be coming out tomorrow just keeps on coming out today! First the Marvel Legends Star-Lord Helmet and Mjolnir Hammer Prop Replicas went up for order a day earlier than announced, and now we’re getting our first New York Toy Fair 2017 Marvel Legends figure reveal a night before the 2017 Toy Fair even begins! Some Marvel fans who haven’t read comics may need to bust out their “Google Fu” skills, because the first Hasbro reveal of the show is the 6″ Marvel Legends Ex Nihilo figure from Guardians of the Galaxy Wave 2!

When the estimated release date on the 2017 Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Wave 1 figures shifted from February to March 2017, the hearts of plenty of folks (including me) dropped. But it’s time to put on a happy face and bust out the noisemakers, because the Marvel Legends GOTG figures have arrived earlier than expected! My case of ML GOTG Wave 1 shipped yesterday from EE, other online retailers like BBTS and Amazon should be receiving their figures shortly, and the first store chain the series has shown up at is… Walgreens?!

With the Skottie Young Magneto that debuted at SDCC 2016 being the only Marvel Babies statue Gentle Giant hadn’t put up for sale yet, most people (including me) expected Mags to be the next pre-order in the line. To the dismay of everyone, the street/release date on the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 figures has been pushed back until March 2017, with the new target month reflected on virtually every retailer website. But while we’re waiting another two months to get our hands on Angela (that sounded dirty) and Yondu and Darkhawk, it looks like there’s one new GOTG figure that we may be seeing sooner: a Toys R Us Exclusive Marvel Legends Groot Evolution Pack has surfaced online–with the first Marvel Legends Baby Groot figure!
