Last week Kotobukiya posted a teaser photo of a certain black and purple bow, so it didn’t take someone with the IQ (or humongous, bulbous brain) of The Leader to know that the Kotobukiya Hawkeye ArtFX+ Statue was about to debut in painted form. If there’s one Marvel licensee out there that doesn’t get the buzz and notoriety it deserves lately, it’s Bowen Designs. While Bowen was the pioneer of the Marvel mini-busts sensation and one of the first companies to mass produce Marvel statues, its star has fallen a bit over the past few years as new companies like Sideshow and Gentle Giant have begun hogging the limelight. While it’s pretty clear that the Kotobukiya Marvel Fine Arts Statues line is nowhere near the most popular or prolific line of Marvel high-end collectibles, the few products that Kotobukiya releases in this lineup each year are often gems. While some Marvel fans will insist that it’s decidedly uncool to,claim your favorite Captain America villain is anyone other than the Red Skull, my personal favorite villain is the far more morally ambiguous Baron Zemo. Sideshow defied expectations last month, when they chose to put the Premium Format Captain America Allied Charge on Hydra statue we hadn’t previously seen up for pre-order before the new Red Skull Premium Format Figure we’d seen in its complete form during the summer.

Now that the holidays are at an end (at least for a couple weeks), I’ve got a chance to step back and discuss some news items I didn’t have time to talk about during Thanksgiving break. First up on the list is the third release in the Marvel NOW Kotobukiya Avengers ArtFX+ line: Captain America! Cap debuted at SDCC 2013 in July, but was M.I.A. when NYCC 2013 rolled around in October. Sideshow Collectibles teased fans this morning when they announced that two “long-awaited pre-orders” would finally be going up for order today in honor of the last day of Spooktacular 2013! When Sideshow Collectibles put up the teaser images of their upcoming J. Scott Campbell Spider-Man Comiquette statue trio, I was quite certain the only one I’d be getting was Gwen Stacy. I hate Mary Jane as a rule, and I didn’t think the Spider-Man J. Scott Campbell statue would bring anything to the table I hadn’t seen before. I was so wrong, though, as the exclusive version of the J. Scott Campbell Spiderman Comiquette comes with a partially unmasked Peter Parker head that just may be my favorite head for a Spider-Man statue ever–and the Sideshow Exclusive Edition Spider-Man Statue is now up for pre-order!
