They say that there’s a first time for everything–and now I believe it. For the very first time, a Howard the Duck figure (that isn’t a pack-in with another figure) is going to be released by a major toy company. No, really. What company is daring enough and has a fast enough turnaround time to capitalize on Howard the Duck’s cameo during the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy? As if there was ever any doubt: it’s Funko! The Funko Howard the Duck POP Vinyls figure is now up for order!

Guardians of the Galaxy was a rare heavily-promoted blockbuster summer movie that really and truly did surprise almost everyone with its success and quality. And while most merchandisers were banking on Rocket Raccoon and/or Star-Lord to become everyone’s favorite characters from the film, the runaway favorite character from the movie turned out to be the most-loved tree man ever: Groot! And to celebrate the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy mid-credits scene, a Funko Dancing Baby Groot POP! Vinyls figure is now up for pre-order!
Continue Reading →Trying to collect Funko POP! Vinyls is a serious undertaking. The number of products Funko is releasing now on a yearly basis is downright insane, and Funko gives out exclusives like candy. Tracking down all of the exclusives is expensive business–but far better than waiting and paying aftermarket prices for them later on, as Funko exclusives are never reissued. At least they weren’t reissued… until now! If you missed him last year, you have another shot: the Hot Topic exclusive Funko X-Force Wolverine POP! Vinyl is back!

I then spent more hours than any sane person would wrestling with myself over whether or not to post spoilers for the LootCrate. Finally, I decided that it’s worth risking eternal damnation if it allows a few more Marvel collectors to get in before the deadline for one of the coolest Marvel Funko exclusives ever. You’ve got until midnight tonight to sign up for this month’s LootCrate and get the LootCrate Exclusive Funko Groot Glow-in-the-Dark POP Vinyl!
UPDATE: The August 2014 Loot Crate is now sold out! If you want the Funko GITD Groot POP Vinyl figure, it’s time to start stalking the online market for him!
Continue Reading →At San Diego Comic-Con 2014, Funko surprised collectors by announcing and showing off a multitude of versions of the first-ever Marvel Funko Hikari Sofubi figure: Spider-Man! Funko didn’t give out a list of the official names for these Spider-Man variants at SDCC 2014, nor did they have release dates or edition sizes for any of them, but now we know who’s up first and it’s a biggie–as in “the largest Funko Hikari figure released to date!” The 10″ Funko Premium Blaze Spider-Man Hikari vinyl figure is now up for order!
Continue Reading →One of the hottest new collectible lines of 2014 thus far is the Funko Hikari line of Japanese style vinyl figures. The limited-edition Funko Hikaris appeared out of nowhere at the New York Toy Fair 2014 and instantly sold out across the internet. But Batman and He-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans got all the love with the first batch of Funko Hikari figures, while Marvel fans were left in the dust. The disappointment for Marvel fans is over, though–at SDCC 2014 this week, a small army of Funko Hikari Spider-Man figures debuted!

I gave the Funko Deadpool Fabrikations figure a glowing review and said that Funko was “going to have a tough time topping ‘Pool”. I fully expected the second Funko Marvel Fabrikations figure to be a letdown after the exceptional Deadpool toy. Turns out, I actually like the second figure orders of magnitude more: the Funko Fabrikations Rocket Raccoon figure is now up for order!
Continue Reading →All good things must come to an end–and that includes the production runs of some figures in the extensive line of Funko POP! Vinyls figures. While Funko will often keep certain POP Vinyls figures in production for several years, with the crazy number of new characters they’re producing each year, certain figures need to retire–or go out of production–forever. And on this summer’s list of discontinued items, it’s been confirmed that several Marvel POP! Vinyls are going into retirement. Order the retiring Marvel POP Vinyls soon if you’re missing them, because retired Funko POP Vinyls can get very pricey on the aftermarket…
Continue Reading →Way back in April 2014, word leaked out via listings in the Barnes and Noble database that Funko had a quartet of Funko Thor The Dark World movie POP! Vinyls coming our way later on in the year. I figured once that happened, Funko would be officially announcing the whole wave of Thor The Dark World Funko POP! Vinyls any day. That obviously didn’t happen. But today, a quarter-year later, Funko is finally prepared to show off their four latest Funko Marvel POP Vinyls: Odin, Lady Sif, Heimdall and a new helmeted Loki are now up for order!
Continue Reading →It looks like it may turn out to be a pretty light year for Funko Marvel POP! Vinyl collectors as far as 2014 San Diego Comic-Con exclusives go! While last year we had a multitude of SDCC Marvel POP! Vinyl exclusives released by Funko (including Unmasked Iron Patriot & Iron Man, Metallic Red Hulk, Metallic Ghost Rider and Metallic Deadpool), this year it looks like we’ll be enjoying one and only one 2014 SDCC Marvel POP Vinyls exclusive. Luckily, it just so happens to be my very favorite Marvel character: the SDCC 2014 Flocked Rocket Raccoon POP! Vinyl has now been revealed!
Continue Reading →Although we’ve been waiting for Marvel to officially announce the Funko Marvel SDCC 2014 exclusives, I surmised instantly what they were going to be based off of the vague hints that Funko posted many weeks ago. One of the hints indicated there would be a San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusive Marvel Mystery Minis set of twelve figures–and lo and behold, that’s exactly what it is! But while most Funko Comic Con exclusives turn out to be straight-up repaints, Funko has surprised us by including some brand new molds unexpectedly as part of the 2014 SDCC Exclusive set!
Continue Reading →Some people think I’m joking when I talk about Funko being bent on world domination of the collectibles market, but I am dead serious. The sheer number of figures that Funko releases each year for various licensees is nothing short of awe-inspiring. And in summer 2014, Funko is launching another new branch of collectible figures: Funko Fabrikations! I was a bit dubious of these fabric-covered figures, but I ordered the Funko Marvel Fabrikations Deadpool for $17 shipped online anyway. I’m so very glad I did–the Funko Deadpool Fabrikations figure is one of my favorite Marvel toys of 2014…
Continue Reading →June 2014 must just be a month for Marvel miracles! First the 6″ Marvel Legends Agent Venom figure that many (including me) legitimately thought would never be released by Hasbro was confirmed (as a Walgreens exclusive, no less), and now the fabled Japanese Amazing Spider-Man 2 Movie Premiere Funko Metallic Spider-Man POP! Vinyl figures have finally appeared for sale online! But if you want one, well… you might end up paying as much for this vinyl figure as you would for a Marvel Hot Toys sixth scale figure…
Continue Reading →We’re only a few days away from the start of July, which means that there’s just over a month until the Guardians of the Galaxy movie arrives in theaters! As such, all street dates have now passed and every company from Hasbro to Funko to LEGO has begun releasing their Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy toys. I’m “all in” for Guardians of the Galaxy in a way that I haven’t been for any other Marvel movie, which means I’ll be reviewing just about every toy made for GOTG. Today, I’ll be discussing what’s sure to be a real hit with the masses: the Funko Groot POP! Vinyls figure…
Continue Reading →LIFO is an acronym for “Last In, First Out” in Computer Science (it’s one of the few things I remember from when I was getting my Computer Science degree). I don’t program anymore, but even so, I think of LIFO every time a new toy gets both announced and released before ones that we’ve seen and been waiting for for longer (yes, the whole world is toys to me). Such is the case with the Funko POP Vinyls Guardians of the Galaxy Unmasked Star-Lord figure that went up for sale long after its comrades, but has now arrived ahead of all the other Funko GOTG POP Vinyls…
