It was just a week ago that Funko “won” New York Comic Con 2014 for me when they showed off an entire display case filled with previously unannounced Funko Hikari Groot Vinyl Figures at the Toy Tokyo booth. Not wanting to wait too long to cash in on the hype and popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy, Funko has fast-tracked their super-sized 11″ Groot figure, and he’s now expected to arrive this winter: the limited edition Groot Funko Hikari figure is now up for order!

If there’s a real tragedy about this summer’s X-Men Days of Future Past movie (besides the absurd lack of merch released for the film), it’s that we never really got to see Future Wolverine in action in his stylish future costume.

It’s been a very weird year for Hasbro Marvel Legends collectors. After kicking off the year in grandiose fashion with the Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Legends and Captain America Marvel Legends 2014 series, we got the X-Men Marvel Legends and Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Legends in July. And, well… that’s it for the 2014 Marvel Legends figures. With one exception: announced at SDCC 2014, the Target Exclusive Marvel Legends three-pack of Marvel Legends Ms. Marvel, Captain America and Radioactive Man has now been released!

I love a good action figure repaint as much as the next guy, especially when it’s a well-done and fan-requested version of a character that collectors have been asking for. In the case of statues that cost hundreds of dollars, I’m a bit more picky.
So while I’m not jumping for joy at the existence of a red-and-black J. Scott Campbell Spider-Man, I totally respect those excited for this repaint: the Sideshow Classic Spider-Man Comiquette is now up for order!

Back at San Diego Comic Con 2014, Funko shocked Marvel vinyl collectors’ wallets when they unexpectedly debuted a half-dozen super-sized 8-10″ Funko Hikari Spider-Man figures at the show. But other than the Blaze Spider-Man Hikari going up for order, we haven’t heard a peep about these since summer. At least, not until today! If I wasn’t expecting Square-Enix to debut a Marvel Play Arts Kai variant figures line at New York Comic Con 2014 by unexpectedly showing off the Play Arts Kai Iron Man figure (and I was not), then I definitely wasn’t expecting the second figure from the line to be revealed as well.

This summer Kotobukiya began teasing Marvel collectors about their next line of Marvel NOW! ARTFX+ statues that would be following up the hit Avengers ARTFX+ series.
Once Kotobukiya declared the series would be of another ultra-popular Marvel superhero team, it didn’t take a genius to guess who Kotobukiya was talking about, but today Kotobukiya announced it officially at NYCC 2014: the Kotobukiya X-Men ARTFX+ statues series will begin in 2015!

I had a terrible first hour and a half at New York Comic Con 2014 this year, as I immediately got into the Toy Tokyo line at show opening at noon. At 1:25, after 85 minutes and moving four steps forward, I flipped out and walked off.

Marvel Comics has essentially divorced itself from the upcoming Disney Big Hero 6 movie in every conceivable way. The Marvel Comics logo is absent from virtually all promotional materials and they’ve basically said that there will be no new Big Hero 6 comic books now or in the foreseeable future–not even new reprints in trade paperback form. I’ve been a Big Hero Six fan since 1998, so I’m not ready to give up on the franchise just yet (that is, not unless the Big Hero 6 movie really, really sucks). And while the Big Hero 6 toys definitely have their flaws, they have some positives worth commending as well…
