Earlier this week, I reviewed a Marvel Legends Build-A-Figure that I thought was solid overall but just a little bit boring: the Deadpool Legends Sasquatch BAF. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, repaints are a fact of collecting life. Sometimes we’re lucky enough to know that a repaint is in the works when an original statue is shown, and sometimes we’re not. Today’s item is unfortunately of the latter type, as it was recently announced… a year and a half after the original version. At New York Toy Fair 2018, Hasbro showed off almost the entirety of this summer’s Venom Marvel Legends series of figures, revealing five of the figures that will comprise the series. They also showed off the packaging for the Venom Legends Series, which revealed that the Build-A-Figure would be something called “Monster Venom”. Speculation ran rampant about what the Monster Venom figure would be, but today, he’s been revealed! And the Marvel Legends Monster Venom BAF isn’t alone–the final figure in the series, Typhoid Mary has now made her debut!

Continuing to slog through my massive backlog of Marvel Legends figures that I have queued for review, today I’m looking at one of this year’s most surprising Build-A-Figures. Sasquatch is one of the cheaper complete Marvel Legends BAFs on the aftermarket in quite a while, and has only a tenuous connection to the character whose series he’s the Build-A-Figure of (Deadpool). Every so often, Hasbro will end up releasing a 6” Marvel Legends figure that blows my mind in both positive and negative regard. Such is the case with one of the most difficult Marvel Legends figures to find at retail so far this year: Iron Spider! Despite the hundreds of 6” scale Marvel Legends figures that have been released over the last decade and a half, there are still major omissions from the X-Men ‘92 lineup. While perhaps the lack of a Jim Lee Jubilee is still the most keenly felt, there’s another animated-era costume just as high on thousands of collectors’ wish lists. If there’s one figure that I know a lot–and I mean a lot–of Hot Toys collectors have been regretting skipping lately, it’s the original Hot Toys Doctor Strange figure. With the Sorcerer Supreme’s solo movie not exactly shattering records and setting the merch world on fire, a lot of collectors skipped Benedict Cumberbatch’s first MMS figure entirely. As a result, when he was a major character with a ton of screen-time in Avengers Infinity War, the first figure exploded on the aftermarket, selling for $700-$800 this month.
