Over the weekend I discussed the newest three Marvel Super Hero Mashers figures to hit stores (Agent Venom, Hobgoblin and A-Bomb). But that’s not the only ultra-successful-but-only-quasi-popular-with-collectors Marvel toy line to have a new trio of figures released this past week! Another batch of new Marvel figures have also arrived, and it’s a new threesome of Disney Infinity figures: the Disney Infinity Yondu, Ronan and Ultimate Green Goblin are now available for order!
While Disney released a new series of non-Marvel figures in the fall (including “Disney Originals” Hiro and Baymax from Big Hero 6), we haven’t had a new pure Marvel character released since the launch of Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes. But with the arrival of the new year, some new “Toybox-only” Disney Infinity Marvel figures have arrived as well!
First up is the Disney Infinity Yondu figure, based off of Yondu’s appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie! I think that Disney was really blindsided by the success and popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy, as they didn’t program the Guardians of the Galaxy levels in Disney Infinity to utilize the Yondu figure at all. As awesome as Yondu is, you’re restricted to using him (and the other two characters in this wave) in the “Toybox” levels of Disney Infinity.
This is the only major mass-release Yondu action figure to be released, as the Diamond Select Toys Guardians of the Galaxy Minimates Yondu figure that was released last summer was a limited Toys R Us exclusive.
Next up we’ve got the Disney Infinity Ronan figure. I was honestly a bit surprised to hear that Disney was going to make a stylized figure of Ronan the Accuser, as he didn’t seem like a particularly popular (or kid-friendly) character for Disney to go with. That said, he’s among my least-favorite Marvel Disney Infinity figures–in my opinion, the super-stylized Disney Infinity aesthetic just doesn’t mesh well with Ronan’s character.
This isn’t a figure I had planned on buying, but I ended up nabbing him to keep my collection “complete” (I skipped the giant Collector’s Edition Frost Giant figure, as I don’t have a PS3/PS4 to play it on) anyway.
The Disney Infinity Green Goblin, Ronan and Yondu figures are now available for order online as well as being out on the shelves in most retail stores that carry Disney Infinity figures. The stores that I visited seemed to have far few figures of the Green Goblin Disney Infinity figure than either of his Guardians of the Galaxy counterparts, but I imagine that’s more due to the Green Goblin’s notoriety than any kind of underproduction.
I know that not many Marvel collectors are “all in” for Disney Infinity, but did anyone (besides me) decide they want to pick up the first few Marvel Disney Infinity 2015 figures?
Yondu, Green Goblin, and Ronan are all usable in their own levels. The best way to tell is the icon to the left above the character on the packaging. If a toy is limited to the Toy Box only, it has a picture of a toy chest. Since Yondu and Ronan have the GotG/Ravagers crest, you can use them in either the Toy Box or the GotG levels. The same with Green Goblin, though he’s limited to the Spider-Man levels and the Toy Box.
