We’ve got just over a month until New York Toy Fair 2018, but already, it looks like perhaps the (literal) biggest Marvel Legends surprise for the show has been spoiled by a most unlikely source: Toys R Us! Diamond Select Toys only releases around a dozen total Marvel Select action figures per year, so ordinarily they put their best foot forward and seldom disappoint. But to my dismay, one of the first releases of 2018 looked like it was going to be a rare misfire based off of the final packaged photos. My Marvel Select Drax and Baby Groot Figures I ordered online finally arrived this week—were my fears for naught, or is the DST Drax ultimately a letdown?

While it seemed like it might be a bit of a risk when the line first launched, the Skottie Young Marvel Babies-inspired Gentle Giant Marvel Animated statues line has really blossomed into a fan favorite series that has gotten much deeper than most collectors expected. And now that the line has proven itself, Gentle Giant Ltd. must feel confident enough to try something a bit different: a two-in-one statue!
