We’re at the halfway mark of discussing the five new-for-2014 Marvel LEGO sets, and this time I’m going to take a look at what’s only the second LEGO set ever built around Captain America! While logic dictates that this winter-releasing Captain America LEGO set would be related to the Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie, it’s actually more like a blast from the past–it’s the LEGO Marvel Captain America vs. Hydra 76017 set!
Instead, you’ll be getting a LEGO Captain America minifigure along with the first-ever LEGO Red Skull Minifigure and Hyrda Henchman minifigure. It’s a major bummer that the only way to accumulate LEGO Hydra Trooper figures is going to be getting one each with this set that’s going to be moderately expensive, rendering army-building quasi-impossible (unless you’re rich).
The main component of the set is a Nazi WWII-styled tank/truck Missile Launcher vehicle. This vehicle doesn’t look like it’s loaded with offensive capabilities, and I’m really not sure why a Cosmic Cube-wielding Red Skull would bother driving it. The motorcycle is basically a slimmed-down and less cool verison fo the 6865 LEGO Captain America’s Avenging Cycle from 2012, so the Red Skull and Hydra minifigures seem to be the only strong reasons to buy this set.
The LEGO Marvel Captain America vs. Hydra 76017 set is not expected to make it out to stores until February/March 2014, so don’t stalk your local LEGO Store on January 1st for LEGO 76017. I’ll post an update once the official price, piece count and release date for the LEGO Captain America vs. Hydra set are announced, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have news, photos and updates sent straight to your Facebook Newsfeed.
Will you be purchasing the first medium/large-sized LEGO Captain America set, Marvel fans? Or does this set not have enough going for it to warrant your dollars?
