For years, sixth scale collectors have decried the numerous repaints and palette swaps of Iron Man MMS figures that Hot Toys have frequently released. Well, it looks like HT has heard those complaints, and taken them seriously—by moving on to recoloring a different Marvel character! I’m honestly shocked that it’s taken this long, but what seemed like a surefire “gimme” is finally on the way: the limited Exclusive Hot Toys Dusty Deadpool figure is now up for order! If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a “dusty” figure, this DP is for you!
But oddly enough, month after month passed, the movie came and went both in theaters and on Blu Ray, and no grey Deadpool Hot Toys figure was even teased. Had HT lost their penchant for easy “repaints”…?
Nope!! The curtain took longer to drop than anyone could have expected for ash-colored Wade Wilson, but this week, it finally has! And, well… as you might expect, it looks identical to the previously released Deadpool MMS… except in grey (with some nifty areas of red peeking through, authentic to the movie).
While the underlying figure here is just a palette swap, Hot Toys has remixed the accessories that are included a bit. While there’s still a plethora of interchangeable hands and eyes included, this time out get regular and battle-damaged coins and a time travel device among the new accessories (but sadly, no mini unicorn this round). The base has also been reworked into a more whimsical greyscale design, and I think it looks quite fun, personally.
The reception to this figure has been partially predictably chilly, as a vocal contingent of Hot Toys collectors are fed up with “repaints” like this one (new accessories notwithstanding).
Even so, I’ve got zero problem with this particular figure, as it’s a screen-accurate, canonical costume from the movie. If HT was busting out Sub-Zero Deadpool in white or some nonsense I might be annoyed too, but I can’t fault the existence of something actually from the movie that’s a callback to the comic books.
For me, this is a neat repaint that I think will add a certain visual flair to my Deadpool collection. This was a “buy” for me as soon as I saw it, although I know this type of item isn’t for everyone.
The Sideshow Exclusive Dusty Deadpool Hot Toys figure is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in Q3 2019. As this figure is a limited release exclusive—the first one that HT has ever released of Wade Wilson—I think that this is virtually certain to be a rapid seller and a hit release. I don’t know that this will sell the bonkers numbers that the red costume versions have, but it’s going to fare solidly beyond a doubt.
Alright, sound off, sixth scale fans: “Yay” or “Nay” on the Deadpool Dusty Version 1/6 figure? Are you in favor of obscure, movie-accurate redecos like this, or do you think Hot Toys has gone to the well once too often with this low screen-time recolor?
