Even if you were daring enough to brave the treacherous, hours-long line to get up to the Funko booth at San Diego Comic Con 2013 today, there was a little extra treat there that most visitors missed: an all-new Funko book that debuted a lot of previously unannounced upcoming Funko POP! Vinyls. Two of these newly-revealed figures will be of special interest to Marvel collectors–it’s the Funko Marvel POP! Vinyls Peter Parker and Compound Hulk!
Hardcore Funko collectors will notice that this is actually the POP! Big Bang Theory Sheldon vinyl head on Spider-Man’s body, but hey, if Tony Stark can just have Superboy’s head with a goatee painted on, then why not, right?
The other new Marvel Funko POP! Vinyl unveiled in the new Funko book is a POP! Compound Hulk. Compound Hulk is a weird amalgam of Hulk and Red Hulk that appeared in Hulk #30 in 2011. I was not a big fan of this concept and thought it made for a very bizarre character design, which is why I didn’t pick up the NYCC 2011 Marvel Universe Compound Hulk action figure in 2011, even though I was at the show and there was literally no line. That said, Compound Hulk looks awfully cute in Funko POP! form. I maybe–maybe–might break my stance against Compound Hulk and pick this Vinyl figure up if it looks cute enough in person.
Both the Funko Marvel Peter Parker and Compound Hulk Vinyls should be mass release figures arriving in fall/winter 2013, and not store exclusives or variants (although there very well may be store exclusive variants of Peter Parker and Compound Hulk!). I’ll post more specifics on the release dates for the Peter Parker and Compound Hulk POP! Vinyls, as well as pre-order links, once Funko releases more information.
