Apocalypse may have stolen all the hype at the SDCC Diamond Select Toys booth last month, but the big A wasn’t the only Select figure that DST debuted at the con. After making a surprise appearance in San Diego that no one (except those who saw leaks) expected, the Marvel Select Beta Ray Bill figure is now up for order! Does this BRB offer anything past iterations have not?
Ever since Toybiz released the first-ever Beta Ray Bill action figure in the 90s, it’s never been more than a few years before another piece of merch arrived for Thor’s hammer-brother.
Bill has had representation in the form of Minimates, a Bowen Designs bust and statues, a Marvel Gallery PVC diorama, several Marvel Legends 6” figures—and now, his very first Marvel Select action figure by Diamond Select Toys.
But while virtually every other piece of merch launched for BRB has featured him in his purely classic garb, DST is taking a surprise route by utilizing his modern era costume (as seen in the five-issue 2021 Beta Ray Bill comic series)!
Obviously Diamond Select was looking to do something fresh with their Bill to break up the monotony of what’s come before, and I think in this instance it really works. I never thought I needed another Beta Ray Bill action figure, but this one (despite only having 16 points of articulation and no articulated jaw) offers something not seen before in toy form.
Standing a mighty 8.5” tall in his gold and blue costume, this BRB will tower over less godly foes and really draw attention on a crowded shelf.
Meanwhile, he’ll include an ever-popular “spinning hammer” Stormbreaker accessory (like the one DST’s modern Thor Select pioneered), an accessory No Toybiz or Hasbro version of the character has ever boasted.
Beta Ray Bill Select is now up for order and is expected to ship out in early 2023. After recent figures like Red Hulk and Apocalypse pre-sold out at stores like BBTS within half a day, it may be worth reserving a Beta Ray Bill early if you’re sure you want one (though Beta Ray isn’t exactly on the same level as those heavyweights).
What do you think of the latest DST action figure, Marvel Select fans? Were you surprised to see Diamond choose Beta Ray Bill for this treatment, and will you be adding him to your own collection?
