It’s that time of the month once again, and fresh off announcing their San Diego Comic Con 2022 Exclusives, Diamond Select Toys has another batch of Marvel solicitations to share with fans: a new Marvel Select Red Hulk is up for order! But statue fans have things to look forward to as well—There’s also Marvel Gallery PVC figures of Scarlet Witch and the Vulture, and more!
If you thought DST would take things slow this month just because they just announced their SDCC 2022 Exclusives a couple days ago, you thought wrong.
While there’s sadly no new Marvel Animated or Premier Collection resin pieces in this new round of solicits, there are still new collectibles for action figure, statue and bust collectors to get pumped about.
This month’s “headliner”, so to speak, is an “all-new” Marvel Select Red Hulk figure that uses the newer-styled DST immortal Hulk Select body. There was a Diamond Select Red Hulk figure previously in the line years ago, but a new version seems warranted since the original has remained popular and in-demand despite Red Hulk’s dwindling relevancy in the actual Marvel comics.
I think the extreme stylization on the portrait for this figure is highly appropriate for how he’s been depicted in comic books, though I have heard some fans gripe about it. Different strokes! Personally, I love it–and it does seem to be rather demanded, as BBTS already sold out of pre-orders in just one day.
MCU and classic comic book fans are also covered with two new Marvel Gallery PVC statues: a WandaVision Scarlet Witch from the Disney+ show and a comics-based Vulture.
The Scarlet Witch PVC is one of my favorite Marvel Gallery designs in ages, as the flowering Chaos Energy effects behind her just look super cool and unlike anything else in the line. Caught in mid-hover, this Wanda radiates terrifying power. It’s been a long time since a Marvel Gallery statue caught my attention in the way this one does.
The Vulture Gallery figure… isn’t as impressive to me. Ol’ Vulchy has had his feet webbed to some debris on the base by Spidey and appears to be struggling to get away. Comic-styled Vulture doesn’t get a lot of merch, so I really want to love this statue—but this piece ends up feeling rather awkward and forced, which just isn’t good enough for me at the recently-increased prices of the DST Marvel Gallery series.
Rounding out the new Marvel solicits, we have a one-off Avengers Endgame Black Panther mini-bust. The crossed arms pose is reminiscent of the Bowen Designs bust from nearly two decades ago now, which hits a nice nostalgic chord for me.
This is a very nicely designed and well-sculpted MCU Black Panther mini bust with a fairly low edition size of just 2000 pieces, but as a standalone piece that’s not part of a larger series I don’t have a vital need for it myself. Bigger Black Panther fans than I may feel otherwise.
All four of these new Diamond Select Marvel collectibles are now up for pre-order, with an expected arrival date in fall 2022. If Immortal Hulk is any indication, I reckon the Red Hulk Select May end up being tricky to get at release for those who miss out on POing (especially seeing as how pre-orders are already selling out).
Anything among this quartet of new items catch your eye, Marvel collectors? Who’s thinking of upgrading their old Red Hulk Select to this new iteration, and are there any bust collectors still reading besides me?
