This morning Diamond Select Toys released their new product solicitations for October 2013. Among the solicitations were a few surprises (I’m pretty sure I was born to buy that Thundercats Minimates set with Ben-Gali and Lynx-O), but also some things we were fairly sure were a lock to come out. The “Thor: The Dark World” movie figures are a mixture of both–there was little question there would be a Marvel Select Thor action figure, but I doubt anybody was expecting a Marvel Select Jane Foster figure…
I’ll be honest–I’m a huge fan of Natalie Portman (moreso from her performance in “No Strings Attached” than anything else, I admit), so knowing that she’ll be getting a figure from the amazing sculptors at Gentle Giant (who is teaming up with Diamond Select Toys) is one of my toy collecting highlights of the year. I’ve been paying a lot of attention to the stellar work that DST does recently, and there’s no company that I’d trust to make an authentic, detailed figure of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster more than them. Absolutely can’t wait for this one.
Both the Marvel Select “Thor: The Dark World” Thor and Jane Foster figures will be in the standard Marvel Select 7″ scale with 16 points of articulation. Considering neither character is known for their lithe acrobatics, I think that 16 points of flexibility is going to be more than enough. Each figure will come with some sort base that can be combined to recreate a specific Jane Foster and Thor scene from the movie (I hope it’s something romantic!).
While Thor and Jane Foster are the first two figures announced for the “Thor: The Dark World” Marvel Select lineup, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be one or two more. Loki and Malekith both seem like possibilities for the line, so we could still see those figures later this year. Beyond those two villains, though, don’t get your hopes up–I really can’t see any other Thor 2 movie Marvel Select figures being produced.
The “Thor: The Dark World” Marvel Select Jane Foster and Thor movie action figures are now available for pre-order, with an expected release in October 2013.
