After the previously-released Marvel 1/4 NECA Avengers figures such as Iron Man, Captain America, a Thor: The Dark World Thor, quarter-scale figure collectors have been waiting patiently for the long-rumored Hulk figure to join his Avengers brethren. Unfortunately, it looks like those fans are going to have to wait a little more. NECA announced their next Avengers 1/4 scale figure this morning, and it’s a repaint with a new head–the NECA Captain America Battle Damaged quarter-scale figure is now up for order!

The original Avengers NECA Captain America quarter scale figure arrived at the beginning of 2013. While it was a fairly nice (and huge!) 18″ figure with a respectable 25 points-of-articulation for under 100 bucks, it didn’t exactly set the collecting world ablaze. In fact, the original 1/4 Captain America NECA figure is still available for about $90 shipped online (below it’s original $99.99 MSRP), despite the fact that that Captain America action figure has been out of production for a year.

So no, I wasn’t really expecting to see a variant of that Avengers Captain America 18″ figure emerge anytime soon.

Even so, the 1/4 NECA Battle Damaged Captain America figure has now been announced and officially put up for orders. I’m not surprised, per se, as NECA paid for the Captain America tooling and obviously wants to get their money’s worth out of it, but I do wish NECA had at least shown us some new previews of their long-rumored and hotly-demaded 1/4 Hulk NECA figure before announcing another repaint/retool.

One thing that has quickly become a luxury for me is open space to display my collectibles in. With there being so, so many new toys and collectibles I buy each year, space to display everything is at a premium. That’s one reason I’ve never really gotten into the NECA Avengers 1/4th scale line, as I just don’t have anywhere to put a bunch of 18″ figures (much less their bigger than 18″ boxes).

The other reason I haven’t gotten into the NECA 1/4 scale Marvel action figures line is that I like to have a ton of characters to display–not just a handful. And unfortunately, it doesn’t look like NECA will be expanding beyond three characters anytime soon. Along with the Thor The Dark World Thor figure, we will now have several NECA Iron Man 18″ figures and a couple of NECA Captain America 18″ figures.

I appreciate the effort that NECA put into this Captain America Battle Damaged action figure–I think the new Chris Evans head on the Battle Damaged Captain America figure is adequate, as is the “battle damage” dirt deco–but this just isn’t something I need for my personal collection.

The 18″ NECA Battle Damaged Captain America figure is now available for pre-order. There have been some NECA early sell-outs lately in their quarter-scale line, but unless this 18″ Captain America Battle Damaged figure is far more limited than his predecessor, I really don’t think he’ll sell out until well after he’s released.
