Magneto is hands-down one of the most popular and legendary Marvel villains ever, and has had an appropriately large number of statues released to match his reputation. The thing is, most of those large statues are long sold-out and astronomically-priced on the aftermarket, and not everyone can afford a $700 Sideshow Magneto. But Diamond Select Toys had a major reasonably-priced reveal at the 2018 Toy Fair this weekend, and it’s coming sooner than we thought: the Marvel Premier Collection Magneto Statue is now up for order!
And so, it’s time for me to push my DST Magneto Statue photos and preview from Toy Fair to the front of the line, because just days after being revealed, the Marvel Premier Collection Magneto is already up for order online!
“Classic” is the name of the game with this Diamond Select Toys Magneto Statue. Whereas Sideshow Collectibles jazzed up their recent Magneto Maquette with lots of original touches, this DST Mags is classic through-and-through. He looks like he came to life straight out of a Jim Lee X-Men comic book.
Magneto also comes with a bonus unmasked Erik Lensherr interchangeable head. I always like the option of displaying a statue with an unmasked head, and sculptor Phil Ramirez has nailed unmasked Magneto here. Great stuff.
The base is fairly plain, as it’s just some rocky terrain with a magnetic effect wave being conjured up by Magneto. It’s simple and doesn’t distract away from the Magneto figure itself, which is exactly what I want from this statue. Crazy elaborate bases and thrones and such are nice to have on vastly more expensive statues, but I’m really okay with simplistic at this price-point.
The Diamond Select Magneto Premier Collection Statue is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in September 2018. This is a limited edition of 3000, and with the super-low MSRP on this piece, I won’t be surprised at all to see DST sell out of this Magneto this year. BBTS currently has Magneto for pre-order for $135, which is $15 off the $150 MSRP and the cheapest I’ve seen online.
How do you like the latest addition to the Marvel Premier Collection and the Magneto pantheon of statues, Marvel collectors? Does this ~$150 Statue hit the right note for you, or are you sticking with a larger and more expensive version of the Master of Magnetism?
