I promise that I didn’t purposely go out looking for them, but I did happen to stumble upon the Hasbro “The Wolverine” movie figures at Toys R Us this weekend. It’s pretty unusual for new Marvel action figures to be out in stores in New England before I’ve heard loads of people talking about having found and bought them online beforehand. Of course, in this case, that might be because while collectors have found the movie Wolverine figures in stores, they may not actually be buying them…
I always love a new Silver Samurai action figure (I loved the vac-metallized 1990’s Toybiz X-Men Silver Samurai figure), but I don’t know that this Sword Slash Silver Samurai is exactly what I had in mind. It looks like Hasbro stole a Bane figure’s head from “The Dark Knight Rises” and threw it onto a scary demon head, then stuck arms and legs onto the demon head. This figure is just bizarre. I thought about buying it anyway, as I’m pretty starved for Silver Samurai merch, but I just couldn’t deal with this figure’s weird design.
Hero Blade Logan is a perfectly passable civilian Wolverine figure. I’ve seen and own better Logan figures, but this isn’t altogether awful. I wouldn’t even consider paying $8-$10 for this figure, though.
Warrior Claw Wolverine is your typical 1990’s Jim Lee Wolverine figure, which comes with a “clip on slash trail” effects piece. Sort of a weird inclusion, but I do love effects pieces. This (obviously) has nothing to do with the “The Wolverine” movie.
The Shadow Strike Ninja figure is slightly shortpacked, but as it’s a generic character, I wouldn’t expect to have any troubles finding it. The Ninja action figure looks okay, but I don’t imagine many collectors will be salivating at the chance to get an action figure Ninja with 5 points of articulation.
The Hasbro line also includes a Wolverine 12″ figure from the “Titan Hero Series”. It’s budget priced at $12.99, but this is very clearly a toy aimed at small children. The sculpting is adequate, but the paint and articulation on this 12″ figure are like something out of 1985.
The Hasbro range of “The Wolverine” toys and action figures are now being shipped to stores, and should be pretty widespread within the next week. This Hasbro action figure line has “bomb” written all over it, so if you’re patient, you’ll probably be able to pick up most if not all of the “The Wolverine” movie action figures on clearance a few months from now.
awful figures! why do they keep screwing up the movie lines!
I almost think that Silver Samurai must be a reuse of some Darkstalkers Bishamon figure….
