Every time I think that the Marvel Play Arts Kai Variant figure line is over and Square-Enix is done taking my money, they pull me back in! I really, truly thought that the Play Arts Kai Deadpool and Wolverine figures that went up for sale since last summer were the end of Marvel PAK, but it looks like the line has some life left in it! At New York Toy Fair 2017 last month, I was lucky enough to see the Marvel Play Arts Kai Magneto and Doctor Strange figures revealed in-person!

Kaiyodo has been producing Revoltech figures for many years now, and produced many movie Iron Man figures in that time. But last year they entered the Marvel Comics market with their ultra-fun Ame-Comic Revoltech Deadpool, Spider-Man and Venom figures. I figured it would be very hard for Kaiyodo to follow up the monstrous coolness of their Revoltech Venom figure, and perhaps with that in mind they’re taking a different approach with their next release. I definitely surprised a lot of folks–including myself–when I awarded my “Best of New York Toy Fair 2017” award to Diamond Select Toys. While I’ve always loved DST’s Marvel Select and Minimates figures, what really locked the award for them was neither of those long-running lines, though–it was their unexpectedly amazing showing of Marvel statues! Ordinarily I don’t like to throw around arbitrary awards like “Best in the Show” for the various conventions and events where collectibles companies show off their latest products, but there was one company at New York Toy Fair 2017 that really “wow”-ed me like never before, and that was Diamond Select Toys. Not only did Diamond Select bring surprise additions to their long-running Marvel Select series, but they also debuted over a dozen new Marvel statues at the show and really cemented themselves as a force in the Marvel statue world. And among those new reveals were their first-ever MCU PVC statues: the Marvel Gallery Guardians of the Galaxy statues!

I’m not one to put any stock in leaked UPC lists, but when the Hasbro Marvel Legends Ex Nihilo figure was announced last night, that pretty much sealed the deal that the list of 2017 Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Wave 2 figures that had been circulating for weeks was the real deal and not just a rumor. And at the Hasbro Brand Toy Fair 2017 event today, we got official confirmation and also our first look at the rest of GOTG Marvel Legends Wave 2–including Nebula, Baby Groot and the Mantis Build-A-Figure!

There may be a crazy snowstorm raging in New York City this morning, but the weather is no match for the power of a Mezco Toys Pre-Toy Fair event!
