Play Arts Kai Marvel has had a good ride, with the series lasting longer and going deeper character-wise than anybody expected. But this time, I think the end may really be nigh. Not just for Marvel Play Arts Kai—but largely for PAK as a whole! For the first time since the heyday of Play Arts Kai, Square-Enix didn’t reveal a single new PAK from any line at SDCC 2018. But if Marvel PAK is really coming to an end, at least it can go out with a bang: Play Arts Kai X-23 is now up for order!

A couple years back, it looked like the Play Arts Kai Marvel Variant line might be on its last legs when they released a trio of straight-up “Special Color Version” repaints. Among these was an Iron Man Special Color Ver. figure that had been repainted into War Machine colors. At the time, that seemed likely to be the only Play Arts War Machine figure that would ever be produced. But there’s bucks to be made on revisiting the second most popular Iron Man character, and Square-Enix is set on making them–the Play Arts Kai War Machine figure is now up for order!

Although it’s far from the cheapest line of Marvel import figures out there, the Square-Enix Play Arts Kai Marvel Variant line has managed to survive longer than most PAK series and is offering a more diverse assortment of characters than almost any other import Marvel toy line in the land. And while I didn’t expect to see any new figures revealed for the lineup until SDCC 2017, Square-Enix has one that they wanted to get solicited and produced before the end of the year for a very smart reason–the Play Arts Kai Black Panther is now up for order!

I really, truly thought that the Play Arts Kai Deadpool and Wolverine figures that went up for sale since last summer were the end of Marvel PAK, but it looks like the line has some life left in it! Given that it’s been almost an entire year since the last two Square-Enix Marvel Play Arts Kai figures were revealed–and also how the whole line is among the most copiously bootlegged Marvel toys I’ve ever seen–I thought that perhaps we’d seen the end of Marvel PAK. But it turns out that Square-Enix had at least three more releases up their sleeves that they’ve now put up for order–all of which repaints, but two of which might as well be Play Arts Kai Carnage and War Machine!

One month ago at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, Square-Enix gave fans their first glimpse at two new Marvel Play Arts Kai variant figures: the Black Widow we saw painted photos a few weeks ago, and an armored Captain America that painted images of were just revealed this week. I’d been wondering which of the two Avengers was going to be the next to go up for order, and today I got the answer I’d been waiting for: BOTH! The Square-Enix Play Arts Kai Captain America and Black Widow figures are now up for order… but they may end up costing a few more dollars than you’d like…

One of the things I never quite got around to talking about from San Diego Comic-Con 2015 earlier this month is the unpainted prototypes of the Marvel Play Arts Kai Captain America and Black Widow figures that debuted at the event.

Luckily, Square-Enix has now rendered that a moot point (or at least half of one), as today they sent out the first photos of the painted Black Widow Play Arts Kai figure!
