Just when many collectors thought that the Hot Toys Avengers 1/6 Movie Masterpiece Series figures line was at an end, Hot Toys has revealed to the world the official photos and specifications for two more Avengers Hot Toys Sixth Scale figures! Though we first saw a Chitauri Footsoldier prototype over a year ago, fans were skeptical it would ever be released. Hot Toys might have taken that notion as a challenge, because they’ve now created not one but two Chitauri figures! The Avengers Hot Toys Chitauri Footsoldier and Chitauri Commander are now up for pre-order!
Hot Toys is obviously cognizant of the fact that not every collector is going to want to drop a couple hundred dollars each army-builder Chitauri Footsoldiers, so they sweetened the deal by creating a slightly different Hot Toys Chitauri Commander sixth scale figure as well. Collectors have the option of buying either the Hot Toys Chitauri Commander or the Chitauri Footsoldier 1/6 figure individually, or also as a set with a couple of exclusive items: an exclusive Chitauri Rifle, folded-up Chitauri rifle, and alternate hand for holding the Chitauri Rifle.
Hot Toys has really gone all-out with these Chitauro sixth scale figures to make them as attractive for collectors as possible. The texturing on both the Chitauri’s armor and skin looks great, and the paint shading and wash used makes the sculpt look even more incredible. The Chitauri are unquestionably the least popular characters from the Avengers movie, but their Avengers Hot Toys MMS figures look like they’re going to be some of the best.
I wasn’t really thinking about the possibility of removable helmets and faceplates for the Hot Toys Chitauri soldier, but I suppose that’s why Hot Toys designs these toys and not me! (If I had a face like the Chitauri, I’d wear a mask too!).
Not a company to cut corners, the Chitauri Commander and Chitauri Footsoldier both have totally different helmets and totally different head sculpts underneath.
In addition to the removable helmets, both Chitauri figures will also include a Chitauri arm cannon, a very neat diorama stage with rubble pieces to surround it, alternate hands, and a Chitauri hand grenade as accessories.
Now for the bad news: as you might have expected, this Chitauri Hot Toy Avengers 1/6th scale figures will not be “value-priced” (ie cheap). If you want to army-build Hot Toys Chitauri figures, you’re going to need to have some deep pockets. The Chitauri Footsoldier and Chitauri Commander Movie Masterpiece Series figures will sell for $239.99 each, or $474.99 for the set of both the Chitauri Hot Toys figures (On the bright side, that’s still both Chitauri for less than the cost of one Hot Toys Igor Iron Man, right?).
The Hot Toys Avengers Chitauri Commander and Chitauri Footsoldier figures are now up for order, both as a pair (with the exclusive Chitauri Rifles) and as individual figures. The Chitauri Hot Toys sixth scale figures are scheduled to be released in July 2014.
What do you think of the Hot Toys Chitauri Commander and Chitauri Foot Soldier figures, Hot Toys fans? Are you looking to army-build some alien ranks for your Hot Toys Avengers to fight against, or is the hefty price just to heavy for you to add some nameless generic soldiers to your collection?
Speaking of cancelled figures… Anyone got any news on the ikabod crane teased months ago? That has vanished.
I don’t think Hot Toys had army building in mind when they created these. That’s not a price point for that. More like buy one to sit on your work desk or display shelf.
