X-Men fans aren’t exactly starving for a new Scott Summers Marvel Legends action figure—Hasbro has made sure Cyclops fans have been eating good these last few years. And after releasing Cyclops in his familiar blue and white X-Factor costume in 2019, Hasbro is back at it again with the blue and yellow Cyclops right off the cover of the first-ever X-Factor #1! Is this X-Men Legends 2025 figure worth picking up even if you’re not building the “Nemesis” Build-A-Figure? Here’s my review…
I wasn’t exactly screaming out for a new Marvel Legends Cyclops figure (unless it was going to be Phoenix Five Cyclops), but Hasbro still managed to catch my attention with their latest costumed Cyke by going with an iconic cover look (and being forced to buy him for the Genocide BAF piece didn’t hurt either ).
We got blue and white Cyclops in the 2019 X-Men Vintage series (which, holy crap, I can’t believe was more than half a decade ago now), and now it’s time for the sometimes blue/yellow Cyclops costume from the era. I feared this would feel like a lame release, but I’m actually quite satisfied with the final product.
The star of the show here isn’t the actual Cyclops figure, but a newly retooled optic blast attachment for him. Hasbro has added a new second piece that slots into a new notch on the modified original effect, and this wide new extension looks downright awesome. It’s really fun to have a figure being blasted into the ground by this new optic blast.
Along with the aggro head that the effects pieces affix to, there’s also a generic, stoic head included. Scott Summers is a pretty stoic guy, so this is an instance where a neutral-faced expression actually nails the character’s personality to a ‘T’.
Alternate hands are also packed in, including a pointing hand for Cyclops to direct his teammates into battle with and a gesturing hand for aiming his optic blast. These aren’t flashy accessories, but they are necessary ones that add a lot. The huge right cannon arm of the awesome Nemesis Build-A-Figure is also included.
The costume itself is straight out of my childhood, flashing me back to reading the inaugural issue of the original X-Factor series as a kid [those early comics absolutely do not hold up today, imo].
We’ve seen Hasbro do yellow and blue X-Men costumes in the past to disastrous results (the Original X-Men set from a decade ago springs to mind), but this time out they are much more successful. There’s no bleed-through at all on the paint, and the deco looks neat and cleanly applied. This is a really good-looking Cyclops action figure, even if the costume is a slightly niche one.
Equally impressive is the articulation scheme, which shines with all the joints you’d hope for, including butterfly swivel shoulders that are more integral to the posing than I’d expected.
The full articulation scheme includes:
–Ball-Hinge Head and Shoulders
–Butterfly Swivels on the Shoulders
–Ab Crunch
–Swivel Waist, Biceps, Thighs and Boots
–Ball Hips
–Swivel-Hinge Wrists
–Double-Hinge Knees and Elbows
–Hinged Feet with Rockers
There’s no costume add-on pieces in the way, so every POA has a full range of motion that works smoothly and efficiently.
Overall: In the age of $26 Marvel Legends, I really want Hasbro to offer me something new to sell me niche costumes of frequently released characters. This new X-Factor #1 Cyclops figure does that, with a spectacular effects piece expansion and an immaculate blue/yellow paint job. If Hasbro has mastered the QC for this color combo now, I wouldn’t mind a new set of Original X-Men redos. This Cyclops absolutely does not reinvent the wheel, but it’s a very fine figure with a cool new effects piece that makes it feel worthwhile to me. I’ve got no real complaints here. Good job, Hasbro.
