Marvel Select Modern Thanos Figure Packaged Disney Store ExclusiveORIGINAL (4/2/2018): It’s becoming a bit of a tradition for the Disney Store to get comic-based Marvel Select exclusive figures related to major Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that are about to hit theaters. It happened with Planet Hulk, with the Winter Soldier, with Hulkbuster Iron Man, and even with a complete Guardians of the Galaxy lineup. And now—it’s happening with Thanos: a Disney Store Exclusive Marvel Select Modern Thanos figure has begun appearing on ebay and in stores!

Marvel Select Modern Thanos Exclusive Action Figure Box

Diamond Select Toys is only able to release a handful of Select figures for each MCU movie that comes out, and that means that oftentimes there are characters that just don’t get the Marvel Select movie figure treatment that they may deserve.

That said, thanks to their partnership with the Disney Store, DST is frequently able to give those characters some love as comic-based exclusives—and the latest character to get this treatment is a modern Thanos Select figure!

Disney Store Marvel Select Thanos Figure PackagedWithout any warning whatsoever, the modern comics version of Thanos suddenly began appearing in Disney Stores in the UK yesterday. It hasn’t gone up for sale online yet, but an eBay listing in California for the new Marvel Select Thanos figure indicates he may be hitting the United States sooner than later as well.

Modern Thanos DST Marvel Select Figure Size Comparison with Spider-Man Homecoming Select FigureA huge thanks to Russell Dymott from the Marvel Select Community Facebook Group, who was nice enough to give me permission to run some of his photos of the 2018 DST Thanos Marvel Select Figure that he purchased in London, as well as sending me some of his impressions of the toy…

Back of Diamond Select Toys Modern Thanos 7 Inch Figure Disney Store ExclusiveOn the Paint Deco: “Paint is really nice , had good use of metallic gold , silver and bronze with I nice weathered look to it , he has battle marks around and on his chest plate to which works well”

Size Comparison Marvel Legends Thanos Build-A-Figure vs Disney Store Thanos Select FigureOn Articulation: “For a select he does have good articulation: ankle pivot, boot rotation, double jointed knees , thigh cut (but his skirt does stop his legs from moving apart too far), upper body has fixed waist with ab swivel instead of crunch, bicep cut , single jointed elbows , arms don’t go up very high as hindered by his chest plate coming over the top of the joints , both his glove and gauntlet rotate 360 but hands are fixed as they have the hinge but don’t move because of the armor”

Marvel Select Modern Thanos Figure Size Comparison with Classic Thanos Figure DSTSize-wise, we can see that the Disney Store Marvel Select Thanos figure is noticeably smaller than both the previously-released Classic Thanos Select Figure and the 2018 Marvel Legends Thanos Build-A-Figure, but with much more elaborate sculpting and paint detailing.

Marvel Select Thanos Classic Modern and Marvel Legends BAF Scale Comparison

Thanos is only supposed to be 6’7” in the Marvel comic books, but I suspect that a lot of collectors are going to be thrown by him being so much smaller than the (perhaps oversized) original Thanos Marvel Select figure. It’s hard to get a true read on Thanos’ height, since it varies wildly depending upon the artist and storyline that’s he appears.

Even so, I think that this is a gorgeous piece of work and an exclusive that is going to sell like wildfire for the Disney Stores once they get it into stock.

Box Back Disney Store Exclusive Marvel Select Thanos Figure ModernThe Shop Disney website does sell the Disney Store exclusive Marvel Select figures, but hasn’t added the new Thanos to the site just yet. I’ll post an update to this article and also send out alerts via social media as soon as the exclusive is available. Keep your eyes peeled, as this is a surefire fast-seller.

How do you think this new Marvel Select Modern Thanos action figure compares to the Marvel Legends Build-A-Figure and the classic Select version? Are you planning to scoop this brand new figure up, or are you satisfied with another version of the Mad Titan that you already own?

  1. Cool figure, except for that terrible face! He looks like a Joker knock off! The Legends Walmart Thanos has a much better face!

  2. You didn’t compare him to the just released Legends Thanos Walmart Exclusive! – Could you? Because close up, this looks like a duller paint than the Legends.

  3. First of all it looks like a nice sculpt ( apart from the face !! ). But seriously Select have just lost what I would consider a good customer. I nearly bailed when they didn’t do an MCU Thanos. But I spent a fortune and made a custom myself. And I’ve also spent a fortune on Select period . But when I got to the pictures of this Thanos next to the Legends Build a Figure I just thought well that’s really nice if you collect Legends. So Hasbro have done the other Build a Figure the lighter metallic blue figure and the MCU Build a Figure ( have I forgotten any ?) But to do him THAT small ( and I know what height he is on Wikipedia but Deadpool is 6 f 2” on Wiki and have you seen the size they did him.) To be honest it’s a shame. I’m looking at my cabinets FULL of figures and there must be well over 200 in them counting doubles and trebles and then the unopened boxes on my shelves then the 30 or so customs and the 6 or more preorders !!! Did know one at any of the meetings that they must have had to discuss this figure say “he’s kinda small isn’t he,the other figures are going to tower over him”. I used to have somewhere between 200 – 230 Legends figures but sold them to go with Select. Bad idea. I seem to lurch from disappointment to just ok. Don’t get me wrong they have knocked it out of the park with some like Mighty Thor, Hawkeye. And a lot of the MCU have been good. But it’s not so much the figures they DO so much as the ones they DON’T do. It’s the glaring omissions and preorders of figures they have just done instead of a few they maybe haven’t. And I realise that they can’t please everyone all the time. But this is the cherry on top of the lack of MCU Thanos. And is unfortunately is the last straw. And it’s just at a time when eBay sellers in the UK cannot seem to give them away. I saw Antman, AOU Thor, and Winter Soldier Cap for £22 or $30 for the 3 free shipping and they were on for weeks. Oh well. I really hope the people who do buy him are happy with him. And carry on enjoying collecting Select. Cheers ✌🏻

  4. Sorry, I just wanted to say that I really am gutted about this but when the enjoyment goes out of something then it’s really not worth it.

  5. Dude possesses the Infinity Gauntlet. He can literally be any size – and *appear* to be any size – he wants.

    • And it should be mentioned how inaccurate this is. He never wore the gauntlet dressed in this outfit.

  6. i really really dislike the face, i think it has a good bodysculp but doenst belong in neither the comic nor mcu. i love the work of the sculptor but this one didn´t land on me!

  7. It’s not a fucking MCU Thanos Guys it says it in this very article. MODERN COMIC THANOS. This is his contemporary look.

  8. Shames there is no base with him, Marvel Select figures tend to come with a base! The last Thanos didn’t but at least you got death and interchangeable hand! Would have being awesome to have two hands or two gloves, one with the stones one without

    • What error are you getting? I know some people had to log into their account before ordering would work, but I’m not sure if it’s browser-dependent or what.
