Over the years, I’ve made a lot of great new toy discoveries on New Year’s Eve toy runs. This was not one of those years. I went out today in search of the Hasbro Marvel Legends 2014 figures, and I (mostly) struck out. But what I found instead were some monstrosities that I had heard about–but decided in my mind couldn’t possibly be real. Check out the very first (and hopefully only) series of Hasbro Marvel Super Hero Mashers figures… starring Captain Iron Spider-Hulk and more!
No…? Well, apparently someone over at Hasbro did, and now their wish has come true! As part of their 2014 Marvel figures lineup, the first series of Marvel Superheroes Mashers is hitting stores now!
I first heard about these Hasbro 2014 action figure on Marvelicious Podcast Episode 105 last week, but I genuinely thought that Arnie & company were perpetrating an elaborate ruse and that the alleged Marvel Super Hero Mashers figure were a big prank. That is not the case. Instead, Toys R Us has a fairly substantial area set up for the figures in their Marvel aisle now (far larger than they’ve given Marvel Legends or Marvel Universe in years), with prices ranging from $14.99-$19.99 per figure.
Hasbro has launched a full assortment of basic Marvel Super Heroes Mashers action figures including Iron Patriot, Thor, Hulk, Marvel’s Hawkeye, Captain America, Spider-Man and Dr. Doom. Doom was apparently sold out at my local Toys R Us (if you can believe that), but an online sweep confirmed for me that Super Hero Mashers Dr. Doom does, in fact, exist.
In addition to those five Marvel Mashers Series 1 figures, there’s also a duo of deluxe electronic Marvel Super Hero Mashers: Wolverine and Iron Man. I legitimately kind of like the stylized Tony Stark head that comes with Iron Man, but that’s about all I like about these figures.
Full mashed up Wolverine is pretty “special”, don’t you think? I’ve seen Wolverine dress in a lot of costumes over the years, but this one is definitely the most… unique!
While the aesthetic style is reminiscent of the legendary GI Joe Sigma 6 figures that I loved so much (I still adore the Sigma 6 Tunnel Rat I found on New Year’s Eve 2006), my opinion of these Marvel Mashers toys isn’t a positive one (if you hadn’t guessed that yet). In fact, I kind of wish that these were consigned to the darkest region of the netherworld.
In this day and age when we can’t get Marvel Legends figures like Rogue and Blade on the pegs at all, it makes me insane to see Hasbro blow money on ridiculous gimmicky nonsense like these Marvel Mashers figures. Yes, these are aimed at kids–but man, does their existence ever burn me up when I’ve been waiting two years for a Marvel Legends Dani Moonstar that’s probably never coming.
Honest opinions, guys: What do you think of the Hasbro Marvel 2014 Superheroes Mashers figures? Is there anyone out there planning to pick up any or all of these action figures?
It’s really the retailers fault. They see these and want them on the shelves. Hasbro shows them the amazing Jubilee BAF wave and that is no where to be found. It’s really a very depressing experience to walk into a Toys R Us if you grew up in the 80s.
People over at ToyArk seem to be excited about these and are buying them up. I, for one, think they are just awful. Everyone seems to be using the “but I loved Sigma 6” rationale to justify buying these, and like you, Dabid, I loved Sigma 6 too, and I agree with you that these are a complete disaster. Hasbro had better do an outstanding job with the new Marvel Legends Infinite Series to make up for this.
I like them. I don’t see the logic in hating something because you wish it were something else They are fun, well articulated figures that are a good bargain for how large they are. Plus, it’s fun making custom heroes!
Hey look, somebody who ISN’t a Crybaby!!!
My son will love these, his birthday is only a month away. Great timing! He wears his super hero outfits as missed matched as these. lol! He has more powers, he says.
I love them. I have a 4 year old son who loves superheroes, and loves tearing things apart. And face it, most action figures anymore aren’t meant for kids his age anyway. That, and the price point for such a hefty figure is very nice. People are saying how much they are like Sigma 6, and I see that, but, they remind me more of one of my favorite (short lived) lines from the 80’s, Mantech.
When will they be available in Australia please?
My son loves his and makes up new characters. Then again he loves the new Swap Force Skylanders so obviously he likes the whole mix-em-up idea. Unfortunately today the leg of his Hulk Masher broke off! He only got it for his birthday a week ago and was very disappointed, as am I. He isn’t rough on his toys and given that the whole idea is to swap and change body parts I would have thought they were made to a bit sturdier and less fragile.

Same thing here. My son is very disappointed that the leg on Hulk broke. That is why I am on here researching if there is any warranty or anything or way to get replacement parts.
My son now has three marvel mashers with legs off!!!! Very unhappy seven year old.
The Hulk’s leg broke off on my son’s figure, too. Very disappointing.
Dad brought home a set with some embellished (?) Hulk and another figure in it. The latest news is Capt. America’s thigh is missing, but we are still looking…..
Has anyone found a place where you can obtain spare parts as we also got a couple with broken pegs from main body, so pretty st รง c
Super fun for my little boy. All about red hulk! But sadly the leg snap on part has broken off on 2 hulks and captain america. Anyone know how to gettem apart to fix?
