It’s been nearly three weeks since a new Marvel Hot Toys figure went up for pre-order, and we certainly wouldn’t want to go a whole month without something new and extravagant to spend our future money on, right? Hot Toys sure thinks so, and that’s why today they officially announced and revealed photos of their next figure! You can finally recreate the final battle from Iron Man 2 with the massive and immensely detailed diecast Hot Toys Iron Man Whiplash Mark II Movie Masterpiece Series figure that is now up for pre-order!
Though it only appears briefly in Iron Man 2 for the final battle against Iron Man and War Machine, the Iron Whiplash Mark II armor is one of the most devastating and powerful Iron Man armors in any of the Iron Man movies. It’s always seemed a mite weird to have a variety of Iron Man 2 Hot Toys Iron Man and War Machine figures but no enemy armors for them to fight against, so the official unveiling of the Hot Toys Whiplash Mark II MMS237 is a very welcome event!
Fans griped about the higher price-point of the Hot Toys Die-Cast Movie Masterpiece Series figures when they were first announced, but with the overall positive reception to the die-cast War Machine Mark II that was released last month, Hot Toys clearly feels confident enough to finally solicit this Whiplash die-cast behemoth of a sixth scale figure.
The light-up whips on this Iron Whiplash Hot Toys MMS Diecast figure are definitely a major high point of the figure! These look really, really cool. I don’t usually use the light-up features on my Hot Toys Iron Man figures, but I’d be willing to make an exception for these electronic Whiplash whips.
The diecast Hot Toys Iron Man 2 Iron Whiplash sixth scale figure will also include a sculpted terrain display base, a magnetic face plate, interchangeable battle-damaged chest armor, and an interchangeable helmeted Mickey Rourke head sculpt.
I’m actually a tad confused about the execution of the Ivan Vanko human head on the Iron Whiplash Mark II Hot Toys figure. While Hot Toys has designed the Iron Whiplash die-cast figure so that it looks like Whiplash has raised his face-plate and revealed his face (a la Iron Man), I don’t remember if that happens in the movie–I thought instead you only see Ivan Vanko’s whole head with his helmet totally off. Not sure if this is a non-canonical design or not, but the lack of an entire unhelmeted Mickey Rourke head definitely bugs me.
The Iron Man 2 Whiplash Mark II figure is now available for order on the Sideshow Collectibles website. The Hot Toys Iron Whiplash Mark II MMS237 D06 figure retails for $399.99, which is quite frankly a lot cheaper than I feared the figure was going to be with the combination of size, complexity and diecast parts.
With the rare release of an armored Iron Man villain figure, will you be saving up all year to purchase your own 1/6th scale Iron Whiplash Mark II MMS 237, Hot Toys fans?
