I woke up this morning, rolled over, flicked on my iPhone, and found myself staring into the sneering, ticked-off face of Hugh Jackman. It was a good morning. Out of the blue and defying expectations, Hot Toys abruptly fully-revealed their “The Wolverine” Hot Toys sixth scale figure, based on the summer’s (not-quite) blockbuster Wolverine movie! Coming in 2014, the Hot Toys The Wolverine Movie Masterpiece Series figure is now up for pre-order!
I had some concern that Hot Toys was going to drop “The Wolverine” movie license as a lost cause due to the movie’s so-so box office performance, but I was ecstatic to wake up this morning and unexpectedly discover a complete Wolverine Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series figure that was all spruced up and ready to be put up for pre-order.
Past Wolverine Hot Toys figures have been a tad light on accessories (though the light-up Sentinel head base that came with the X-3 Wolverine was pretty amazing), but Hot Toys is showing Logan some real love with the upcoming MMS220 The Wolverine 1/6th scale figure. The 2014 Hot Toys Wolverine figure will include five (yes, five) pairs of hands including hands with Wolverine’s iconic adamantium claws and even a pair with his (spoilers) bone claws.
On top of all that that, the Hot Toys The Wolverine figure will come with an engraved metal Japanese sword and matching sheath. Ordinarily I’d be like, “Ehn, I’m never going to display Wolverine holding a sword anyway”, but this is a seriously cool sword.
And because we Hot Toys action figure collectors are secure enough to be known to play with dolls, the Wolverine MMS 220 Hot Toys figure will come with not one, but two sets of clothes! Don’t like Hugh Jackman in his black-jacketed funeral attire? Strip him down and redress him in Wolverine’s more frequently seen white tank top and jeans!
The Hot Toys Wolverine Origins figure released a few years ago had a pretty questionable (at best) Hugh Jackman head sculpt. That’s not the case this time: this all-new Hugh Jackman Hot Toys Wolverine head sculpt is a vast improvement over their effort from the previous Wolverine movie. Hot Toys will need to do a modicum of tweaking between now and when the figure is released in mid-2014 to get the head sculpt to look absolutely perfect, but it’s nearly spot-on already.
The MMS 220 Hot Toys The Wolverine Sixth Scale figure is now available for pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles and is scheduled to be released in May 2014. I’ll post more photos of the figure as Hot Toys takes it around to events and conventions, but I’ve already got my pre-order in on this figure–I’m an X-Men fan before all other things Marvel, and this is easily the best Wolverine figure that Hot Toys has ever put together.
