LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man 3 & Avengers Sets On Sale!

If you’re like me and buy a gadjillion toys every month, you probably begrudge LEGO for consistently releasing a lot of expensive sets. It used to just be LEGO Star Wars that wanted a piece of my wallet, but LEGO moved in for the kill with last year’s LEGO Avengers and this year’s LEGO Iron Man 3 lines. I managed to resist temptation by both for the most part–but thanks to a pretty decent online sale, I may be about to fall prey and buy a bunch of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets…

LEGO sets are an annoying thing to buy because there’s rarely a good sale on them in stores. Toys R Us frequently runs “Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off” sales on LEGO sets, but their prices are inflated to begin with, and you save a maximum of 25% off their high prices when you buy two sets (and less, if you purchase two sets of different dollar amounts). Target has LEGO “sales” as well, but most of the time their sets are an insulting 5% off (which doesn’t even cover sales tax in most states).

So I was very pleased this week when I saw online that Amazon has posted a major sale on all of their Marvel LEGO Super Heroes sets (and their LEGO DC Super Heroes sets, too, if you’re into that)! This sale includes all of the LEGO Iron Man sets, the LEGO Avengers sets, the LEGO X-Men and Spider-Man sets, the LEGO Batman sets, and the LEGO Man of Steel sets. A couple of the Avengers LEGO Superheroes sets have already sold out at the sale prices, but most of the sets are still available (including the LEGO Daily Bugle set that comes with a LEGO Nova minifigure–I never thought I’d like to see that).

LEGO Spider-Man Daily Bugle Showdown SetOf the sets that are on sale right now, the most attractive Marvel set is definitely the Iron Man 3 LEGO Malibu Mansion Assault 76007 set. I liked this set when it was released because it gives us one of the very few Pepper Potts figures to ever be released by any company, as well as Tony Stark in his iconic black shirt from the movie (the same as the awesome Hot Toys Tony Stark!). At the original $40 price tag I was hesitant to make a move on this set, but for a far more appealing $28 plus no tax and free shipping, the Malibu Mansion Assault set won my heart.

LEGO Extremis Sea Port Battle Set with War Machine MinifigureThe LEGO Extremis Sea Port Battle set is also on sale at a good discount, marked down from $20 to $14. Now you can recreate the legendary scene from Iron Man 3 where War Machine helps Iron Man catch an Extremis Soldier in a Speedboat chase! (Yeah, I’d also like to know the sales pitch Marvel gave LEGO on why they should make that particular scene that wasn’t in the movie as a LEGO set.)

You can check out all of the current LEGO Superheroes (and other LEGO themes) sets that are on sale on Amazon right now. What do you think of these LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets, Marvel collectors? With the major release of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video game this fall, is picking up some toys to complement the game on your radar?
