MAFEX Cyclops Jim Lee X-Men 6″ Figure Revealed & Photos!

Remember that Medicom MAFEX Wolverine figure that went up for sale last month and made thousands of X-Men collectors’ jaws hang out of their mouths? Well, it looks like that Wolverine wasn’t a random, one-off figure! Over the weekend at this year’s Winter Wonder Fest 2019 in Chiba, Japan, Medicom was on-hand with a surprise prototype for what’s presumably their next 6″ X-Men figure: MAFEX Cyclops in his Jim Lee 90s X-Men costume!

X-Men Cyclops MAFEX Figure Close-Up

The comic-based Marvel MAFEX figure line got off to a bit of a funky start, with the first figure in the line being Gwenpool, and with Evil Gwenpool and alternate reality adult Miles Morales (from Gwenpool comics) following her up. While that trio of figures looks terrific, they’re not exactly the type of characters you’d ordinarily start a new banner line with.

But Medicom Toy seems to have done a bit of a course correction new, with recent solicitations including comic book versions of headliners like Deadpool, Spider-Man, Wolverine and Venom. And now, it looks like Logan won’t be lonely–a Medicom Cyclops MAFEX figure is on the way as well!

Cyclops MAFEX 6 Inch Figure RevealedFrankly, this six inch Scott Summers action figure looks amazing. And for the hefty premium figure prices it’s going to cost (about four times the cost of a standard Hasbro Legends figure), it should. The proportions on the prototype look dead-on, the unique sculpts for the cuffs and belts on the gloves and boots look nice, and the webgear will hopefully fit snugly as well.

I was admittedly very disappointed with how fiddly the add-on costume bits were on the 2017 X-Men Legends Cyclops figure that Hasbro put out, so I’m definitely excited to see a fancier import figure of him being made that’s less dependent upon utilizing shared tooling and add-on pieces. Hasbro makes some spectacular figures, but their recent Jim Lee Cyclops is one that I think can be substantially improved upon.

Close-Up of MAFEX Wolverine Winter Wonder Fest Blue StripesFor those who were worried about the stripes on the Jim Lee Wolverine figure being blue–well, they’re still blue on the prototype shown over the weekend at Winter Wonderfest. I don’t think that the blue stripes necessarily look bad, but for those who they’re a deal breaker for–be aware that there’s been no indication they’re going to be changed to black.

MAFEX Cyclops Figure X-Men Winter Wonder Fest 2019The Wolverine MAFEX figure is now available for order online via BBTS and various import stores overseas, and is expected to be released in Q4 2019. MAFEX figures tend to be a smaller run than Revoltech figures in general and are less likely to be reprinted, so it’s worth reserving one early if you’re interested. There’s no additional information on when the Cyclops MAFEX will be going up for order just yet, but that prototype looks pretty polished, so I suspect it will be soon.

Now that we know Medicom Toy is planning for more X-Men than just Wolverine, what are your hopes and dreams for this line, Marvel collectors? Would you be willing to fork out the big bucks and pay quadruple or more than Marvel Legends versions for a whole 90s X-Men lineup, or are you satisfied with your Hasbro figures from this era? If Medicom expands this line further, who do you hope to see next?

  1. Sure, the Mafex Cyclops’ proportion is a little bit better, but not $80+ better, there’s nothing wrong with the Hasbro one I have. So I’ll stick to that. But if Mafex makes an “optic blast” effect for Cyclops, THAT will change my mind!

  2. They look good, but they are too expensive.

How does Hasbro respond to others making marvel figures – especially in the 6-inch range?

  3. For me it would be worth it When they are faster in delivering These 90s jim lee X-Men !! Next I would need storm in her White suit done perfectly, followed by arcangel, Gambit & rogue!!
