With all of the recent releases in the past month from the more collector-oriented lines like Marvel Select, Marvel Legends and Marvel Infinite Series, I’ve neglected reporting on new figures from one of my favorite guilty-pleasure lines: Marvel Super Hero Mashers! If you’re a mash-up fan, get excited, because new Marvel Mashers Groot, Skaar, Logan, Bearded Thor and more have now been released online and in stores!
Though the wave has only begun hitting stores in the past few weeks the Deluxe Groot Mashers figure is already the most difficult of these figures to find at retail. Large and well-articulated Groot figures are few and far between, so I’m not surprised that this is a hot figure.
Because Groot is such a cartoon-like character to begin with, as well as being a larger-scale character, this particular figure may fit in decently with Hasbro Marvel Legends figures.
Groot includes the head and right arm for the Destroyer, which is a bit odd, since I’m not sure that any figure has been released thus far with a body mold that would be good to stick the Destroyer head on. Hmm.
Shipping alongside the Super Hero Mashers Groot is the newest version of Thor! This version is obviously different from all of the rest because it’s a Bearded Thor Mashers figure.
This particular look doesn’t look like it will especially appeal to children to me, but I’m also a few years past being a kid, so what do I know? Mashers Bearded Thor includes a big shield and Mjolnir hammer.
In addition, this Battle Armor Thor-reminiscent figure comes with the head and arm of a Frost Giant. It’s improbable that Hasbro will ever release a whole Frost Giant figure, but the head may work okay on a spare Iceman Masher!
Finally, three new figures are finally hitting en masse from the basic assortment: Mashers Skaar, Logan Wolverine and Iron Man.
I roll my eyes at yet another Iron Man Mashers figure being released, but I do actually like this one a lot–it feels a bit like the 90’s animated Iron Man from that cartoon that should be a classic but no one remembers.
The Logan Masher is the first “secret identity” figure that we’ve gotten in the line, so I’ll be interested to see how it sells. I doubt there will ever be a full business suit Tony Stark, but I don’t know if a civilian Peter Parker would necessarily be impossible.
Skaar has also been very difficult to locate in my area–he doesn’t get very many quality action figures, and clearly there’s a decent fan base out there for Hulk and the Agents of SMASH.
Will we ever see a Mashers She-Hulk to complete the team…?
Groot and the rest of these Marvel Mashers figures are now available for order online, although Skaar, Groot and the recently-released A-Bomb figures do keep selling out. If you want any of those characters and they’re not available for regular price, keep checking back–Mashers are frequently restocked, so you can usually get any character (other than Deadpool) online for retail.
Anyone besides me planning on picking up some of the newest Marvel Super Hero Mashers figures, or are even interesting character selections like Groot and Skaar not enough to capture your interest (and dollars) for this kid-friendly toy line?
Picked up Skaar, Groot and the 90s Iron Man at wally world over the weekend.
Im into these mashers a little more than id like to admit!
i think the character selection in this lime is what makes it great. The more obscure, the better!
Well said. Indeed, The Arcane, and Obscure are my motto.
I’ve got a funny feeling that the Destroyer and Frost Giant will show up in a deluxe two pack with an “A”list character. Mmmhmmm.
Anyone have details on the rest of the destroyer yet?
