Among the eleven-billion new products that Funko brought to show off at New York Toy Fair 2015, there was one line that came as a real surprise to me. While Funko has gotten into the plush figure business before with their Funko Fabrikations soft sculptures, I don’t recall Funko ever doing stylized, angry stuffed toys before–and certainly not Marvel ones. But there’s a first time for everything, and at New York Toy Fair 2015, we got our first look at the Funko Marvel Mopeez plush toys that are now up for order!
As you may have guessed, that is not what Funko had intended with these Marvel stuffed animals. The name is actually meant to be mope-eze (as in multiple “mopey” people). Basically, these are supposed to be Marvel characters who are having no-good, very bad days. Really–these are the most ticked-off looking plush Marvel characters I have ever seen!
The Mopeez Marvel plush toys will have an affordable MSRP of $7.99 in most retail stores that carry them, and measures 5.5″ tall by 2.5″ wide. Eight dollars for a plush toy of that size and cuteness seems pretty fair to me, especially in a world where 4″ Star Wars figures cost $10+.
The case assortment shown in the Funko 2015 Catalog given out at the New York Toy Fair shows the following case assortment, which looks to be what will be going to actual retail outlets:
Marvel Funko Mopeez Series 1
- (1) Mopeez Deadpool
- (1) Mopeez Hulk
- (2) Mopeez Iron Man
- (2) Mopeez Captain America
- (2) Mopeez Groot
- (2) Mopeez Rocket Raccoon
- (2) Mopeez Spider-Man
I don’t buy a lot of plush toys these days (I have to draw the line somewhere), but a couple of these Marvel Mopeez are absolute must-haves for me. That angry Rocket Raccoon Mopeez plush is the standout for me, although that scowling Captain America Mopeez plush is tops as well. Poor Spidey is my least-favorite, though–due to his mask, he barely has any expression on him at all.
The Funko Marvel Mopeez Series 1 plush toys are now available for pre-order, and are scheduled to be released in May 2015. Funko has dominated most of the markets that they’ve entered in the past year or two, so it’ll be really interesting to see if these angry-looking Marvel plushies turn into the sales sensation that I’m sure Funko is hoping that they will.
What do you think of the new Funko Mopeez Marvel Collection, Marvel collectors? Are any of these plush toys on your 2015 ‘buy’ list, or are plush Marvel toys like these just too ‘kiddy’ for you?
WHAT? What about the Funko Plushies, they are as old as the vinyl ones, my kids have a couple of them.
Way too kiddy for me. Zero interest. Appreciate your effort bringing us Marvel news regardless Dabbs.
Pass.
where is the x-men?
Not here! Disney/Marvel doesn’t like companies making much X-Men merch these days, as a result of Fox not giving up the film rights. As a result, there’s very little X-Men merchandise being released in 2015.
Could that be the reason for lack of scarlet witch and quick silver merchandise ? I have seen more vision than both those characters and he wasn’t even in the trailers.
pre-ordered the Rocket and Cap. would love to see a Winter Soldier and Loki in this collection someday!
