Sideshow Collectibles teased fans this morning when they announced that two “long-awaited pre-orders” would finally be going up for order today in honor of the last day of Spooktacular 2013! Most Marvel fans latched onto this tidbit with dreams of the limited Hot Toys Midas Iron Man 1/6 figure flashing before their eyes, as that’s easily the most-anticipated item not up for sale. Well, Sideshow did make good on their promise of a long-coming pre-order, though not the one fans had in mind–the Sideshow Apocalypse Premium Format Figure Exclusive Edition is now up for order!
The Sideshow Exclusive Edition Apocalypse Premium Format Figure’s exclusive item will be the saw-blade arm that was shown off at San Diego Comic Con 2013. I like this weapon a lot as an exclusive item, as it’s not quite as iconic as the giant blaster arm, but definitely something terrifying and appropriately brutal for Apocalypse to utilize.
The Premium Format Figure Apocalypse statue is definitely not going to be the faint of heart (or wallet), as it’s going to stand over two feet tall (25″ total) and weigh 25 pounds. You’re going to need to clear quite a bit of shelf space (or closet space) before this Sideshow Apocalypse figure arrives in June 2014!
Apocalypse comes sporting a hefty asking price of $599.99 for the both the regular and exclusive editions. Considering that the size of the Apocalypse statues rivals that of the $600 Gladiator Hulk Premium Format Figure that was put up for sale in the summer, it’s no surprise seeing Apocalypse cost an equal amount. I’m not entirely certain that Apocalypse has the popularity or fan base of the Hulk (and this is coming from an X-Men fanboy), so I suspect we’ll see a much lower edition size on the Premium Format Apocalypse statue.
The technological base that Apocalypse stands on is nicely-detailed and looks like the kind of sci-fi machine-like terrain that you’d expect to see Apocalypse on. I’m glad that Sideshow resisted the temptation to add expensive electronics and lights to drive up the price on this statue–I’ll be A-OK without any of those bells and whistles, especially as I don’t think this statue could handle being any more expensive than it already is from a sales perspective.
The Sideshow Apocalypse Premium Format Figure Exclusive Edition is now up for order on the Sideshow Collectibles website. The exclusive item this time is pretty cool, and exclusive versions of Premium Format Figures almost always increase in value, so you might want to lock in one in the near-future if you’re interested in this piece.
What do you think of the Premium Format Apocalypse statue? Is this the item you were hoping for to close out Spooktacular, or did you have something a bit more golden (and Hot Toys) in mind?
Seen this bad mofo at Stan Lee’s Comikaze , blew my mind! I gotta get one.
Though the chainsaw is kinda weak…
