At the pre-2014 New York Toy Fair Hasbro event this afternoon, not only did Hasbro show off the second series of Marvel Universe Infinite Series 3 3/4″ action figures–they whet our appetites for the future Marvel Infinite Series 3 wave as well, by unveiling the upcoming Marvel Infinite Series Ares and Deathlok figures!

While things were pretty quiet on the Toy Fair 2014 Marvel Legends front (what with Hasbro having already shown off all but two of their new Marvel Legends action figures before their press event today), things were a lot more interesting on the Marvel Universe/Marvel Infinite Series 4″ figures front!

Not only did Hasbro debut the six figures that will comprise 3 3/4″ Marvel Infinite Series 2 (headlined by an incredible Death’s Head, in my opinion), but they also gave us a small taste of Marvel Infinite Series 3: Deathlok and Ares!

Both these characters are ones that most people would not have expected to show up this year (if leaked listings on the Internet didn’t exist, anyway), especially Ares–who died a pretty gruesome death to the Sentry a few years back and hasn’t been seen since. I imagine “getting ripped in half” is too grisly an action feature for Hasbro, unfortunately.

I don’t traditionally think of the cyborg, Deathlok, as being an Avengers-related character, so I’m excited to see Marvel Infinite Series branching out a bit beyond the confines of the Avengers family. With the Marvel movies universe Deathlok appearing in Agents of SHIELD this year, this will hopefully be the first piece of Deathlok swag to not sell terrible at retail.
