I swear I never intended for it to happen, but I developed a genuine affinity to the kid-aimed Marvel Super Hero Mashers line of action figures last year. And while the line has been, uh, “less” warmly received by collectors than it has been by children, it’s turned out to be a solid seller at retail stores. So while Marvel Mashers aren’t the apple of every Marvel fan’s eye, the line will be continuing with plenty of new and popular characters this year. And at the New York Toy Fair 2015 over the weekend, Hasbro revealed the 2015 Marvel Mashers Carnage, Nova, Ant-Man, Rocket Raccoon and more!
Likely to be the most sought-after figure in this year’s assortment of Marvel Super Hero Masher figures is the Mashers Carnage. I always feel a little bit weird seeing the psychotic, serial-killing hillbilly Carnage in a line aimed at small children, but the stylized symbiote figures make for some of the best Mashers, so I can’t complain.
We’ve been waiting for Carnage since the Mashers Venom figure included an arm for him almost an entire year ago, so it’s about time the Carnage Masher finally came home to roost.
2015 New York Toy Fair Hasbro Marvel Mashers Agent Venom Figure
This Agent Venom Mashers action figure looks positively styling! Agent Venom is becoming a bit of a “cash cow’ character for Marvel this year, but among all the new Agent Venom figures in the pipeline, I think I like this Marvel Mashers Agent Venom figure the best. I’m not sure why Agent Venom would need a forearm-mounted rocket launcher, but the spiked gauntlet on his left forearm looks cool enough to make up for it.
Marvel Super Hero Mashers Rocket Raccoon Figure
Kudos to Hasbro for resisting the temptation to make this kid-oriented Rocket Raccoon Mashers action figure “cute”, and instead giving Rocket an angry, serious expression. Because of Rocket’s unique physiology, I foresee loads of fun mixing and matching his head and raccoon tail with other Marvel Mashers figures!
Marvel Super Hero Masher Nova Figure
The contrasting shiny blue paint and flat yellow paint on this Mashers Nova figure looks terrific. Nova isn’t a character I expected to ever get the Marvel Mashers treatment, but Hasbro did a really nice job with him, in my opinion. The highlight of this figure is the snap-on plasma blast effects piece–I hope we start to get these kind of attachments with lots of figures in the Mashers line this year!
New York Toy Fair 2015 Hasbro Marvel Mashers Ant-Man Figure
Ant-Man is set to get more merch in 2015 than every other year of his existence combined, including his own Marvel Super Hero Mashers Ant-Man figure! Hasbro wisely chose a slimmer body mold for the Ant-Man Masher figure, and I think the figure looks pretty decent overall. Here’s hoping for a “vehicle” pack with some sort of giant flying ant for Ant-Man to ride on!
Marvel Super Hero Mashers Daredevil Figure (New York Toy Fair 2015)
The Marvel Mashers Daredevil figure unfortunately turns out to be one of the worst-looking Marvel Super Hero Masher action figures ever. The super-bulky design and pin-head just do not suit one of Marvel’s most lithe and athletic characters, unfortunately.
New York Toy Fair 2015 Marvel Mashers Winter Soldier Action Figure
Winter Soldier probably shouldn’t look like such a powerhouse either, but at least his layered costume and bionic arm don’t make him quite as unsightly as Daredevil. It’s a shame that Hasbro didn’t go for the long-haired Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie look for Bucky, though–I think the long hair would have made this figure look a bit better.
Marvel Super Hero Mashers Hulkbuster Iron Man VS. Hulk Two-Pack
Because the Marvel Masher Hulkbuster Iron Man figure needs to be compatible with all of the other Super Hero Masher figures, the proportions on it are rather wonky. That said, the paint on the Hulk Buster looks better than that of any Marvel Super Hero Mashers figure we’ve ever seen before, and I’ll go bonkers if the Hulkbuster armor actually busts out wings in the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie this summer (I would be astonished if that happened, however).
I’ll be continuing my coverage of the Marvel toys revealed at New York Toy Fair 2015 throughout the month, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have more news and photos beamed right to your Facebook Newsfeed.
What do you think of the Marvel Mashers 2015 lineup of action figures, Marvel collectors? Do any of these fun, kid-friendly Marvel figures strike your fancy, or will you be skipping over Mashers for more adult-oriented Marvel action figures in 2015?
I’m hype for Carnage and Pym. I hope they come out soon.
I used to love these, but once I realised I was only using them for display, I decided that there were other cheaper, more worthwhile, and just plain COOLER figures (specifically, FUNKO), I sold all but one of them.
