With just three and a half months until the theatrical release of the “Avengers: Age of Ultron” movie, the time for secrecy is over, and merchandise for the film is finally being revealed in droves! And while Diamond Select Toys put the Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates figures up for order long ago, we hadn’t gotten to see the actual Minimates Age of Ultron figures themselves–until now! And, oh yeah, there’s also this exclusive pair of super-powered siblings coming…
A while back, DST announced the following two-packs as making up the Avengers Age of Minimates wave coming to comic book and specialty stores:
- Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates Thor & Captain America Figures
- Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates Iron Man & Black Widow Figures
- Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates Hawkeye & Ultron Figures
- Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates Hawkeye (Trenchcoat) & Sub-Ultron Drone Figures
It is a little peculiar that Hulk and Hulkbuster Iron Man aren’t represented at all in the AoU Minimates lineup. I wonder if DST has something special cooked up for those characters…? (Or maybe they just couldn’t figure out a good way to represent the monstrous Hulkbuster Iron Man armor in Minimates form. We’ll see.)
In addition to the online/specialty store assortment, Toys R Us stores will also be getting their own Avengers 2 Minimates assortment of figures, which will be composed of the following three packs:
- Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates Thor & Captain America Figures
- Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates Iron Man & Black Widow Figures
- Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch Figures
The big prize here is obviously the Minimates Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch pack, as both those Minimates figures are Toys R Us exclusives. Just like the GOTG Minimates Yondu figure last summer, I’d expect a quick sell-out on that exclusive pack.
It’s sort of funny that for the first Avengers movie, Toys R Us was the exclusive retailer that received Black the movie Hawkeye Minimate, whereas this time they’re the only store carrying Avengers Minimates that won’t have that character.
The Marvel Minimates Avengers Age of Ultron figures are now available for order, and are expected to be released in May 2015. The Toys R Us exclusive Minimates Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver pack likely won’t be put up for sale on their website until the actual figures are in-stock, however.
Now that you’ve seen them, are you happy with the Marvel Minimates Avengers Age of Ultron movie figures, Marvel collectors? Will you be picking up any sets from Toys R Us or specialty stores, or are you passing on these series altogether?
